Neighbors

So I have a drainage ditch (too steep for a mower) that goes through the yard. I trim it with a grass "Whip" a poor man's weed eater. I also push mow the entire yard. I think the niehbor thinks he could make life easier by offering me to use his rider mower. Or maybe becauase I mow on the highest setting and while the whip keeps the ditch trim it still looks like crap.

Or he doesn't get that I like work. Even though I keep telling him I do it for extra labor. I have actually considered getting rid of the gas mower for those mechanical push types. I also have a small shovel that I have used for snow and takes probably 2-3 times longer to shovel.

I've lived in the same neighborhood for almost twenty years, and I have never had any trouble with my neighbors. About five years ago a new family moved in next door, and things changed. My neighbors brought several pets with them. Don't get me wrong, I like animals, I just don't want all of them to "do their business" in my yard. Three or four of my neighbors cats decided to turn my yard, and my wife's flower bed into their private restroom. After my kids came into the house with cat crap on their shoes on more than one occasion, I contacted the neighbor, and asked her to please keep her animals in their yard. (Our town has a leash law for cats and dogs.) She stated that I couldn't prove that their family pets craped in my yard. I bought a Hav-a-hart trap and caught two of her cats the first night. I took the animals back to her and said, are these your cats? She then got mad at me because I had the gall to "trap" her family pets. Again I asked her to please keep her family pets in her yard. This worked for about two weeks. I had to bring out the traps, when they started craping in my yard again. This time I called the local animal control guy. He came out each time, picked up her animals, and she had to pay $25.00 to get each cat back. Suddenly she didn't seem to want her precious family pets back anymore. She decided to give these animals up for adoption, I guess.

Last week, my neighbor's son had his vehicle parked in front of my house. This is no big deal, he parks it there often. I mowed my yard, as usual, and then noticed that my neighbor lady was taking pictures of her son's vehicle. I was edging my sidewalks nearby, and I asked her what was going on? She stated, I've got you now" and asked why I had thrown grass clippings on her son's car. I told her that I had a right to mow my yard, and that maybe her son should park his vehicle somewhere else. (There was only five or six pieces of grass on the side of the car.) She then called me several choice names, and gave me the finger. She called the local police, and they came out and took a report. (This report listed no damage to the vehicle.) To be honest, when my neighbor "went-off" on me, I really wanted to tell her off, but her small children were present, so I kept my mouth shut. I guess what I really wanted to know is, "does anyone else have problems with a wacko type neighbor out there"?

I've been living here almost 25 years now and most of my neighbors are either elderly and/or widowed/widowers. Anyway my son and I have always thought to help out in times of need, like snow storms, rain storms, emergency health care, etc.. They all know we are just a phone call away.

Yesterday my elderly 'cross the street neighbor calls and asks if he can come over 'cause he needs to talk to me.

Don's wife passed away about three weeks ago, and I'm thinking he's having a problem, so I invite him over for coffee. I watch as he drives literally less than 100' and pulls into my driveway.

    Now he's got me scared.

He motions for me to come on out. As I leave the house, he pops the trunk and I see an old gun case. Now I know he owns an old Mossberg, cause he's asked me to check it, clean it and oil up for him from time to time "just in case".

I know "just a Mossberg", but not any old Mossberg, it's Don's pride and joy. He's told me several times that it doesn't have a lot of wear and tear 'cause he never really got into hunting or the shooting sports but he always felt safe with it around the house.

Today he reaches into the trunk of his car and grabs the case and with my permission he'd like likemhot jr. to have it.

He apologizes 'cause there's only a coupla boxes of old shells and a cleaning kit that's like new. I asked him about his kid's and grand kids, old friends and the like and he says to me, "no one would use it or appreciate it like jr."

In his dear elderly heart he knows it has gone to a good home, and will be appreciated more than any gun I will buy. Next to my dad's guns, this one is priceless. Thanks Don

    or is it Nieghbors?

Do your's get stuff of your's without telling you?

The other day I went looking for a socket in my shop and couldn't find my nice little set. I spent an hour fussing at my children for losing my stuff. I ran out to the hardware store and got another and got the job done.

Yesterday I see my Neighbor walking out of my shed he waves and tells me he is returning my socket set he borrowed the other week.

Now I go and apologize to the kidneys and all is well at home. So I go see the guy and say "look, please don't ever hesitate to ask, but let me know when you borrow something". He huffs all up and says "fine, I'll go buy my own socket set"...

Now It feels rotten to have the tension between us.

    Oh well.

I once had a "real" NUT CASE for a neighbor. Honestly, I never did anything to her, to start it. I got death threats from her, she was going to come over the fence and beat me with a metal pipe. It got to the point where we were screaming at one another over the back fence, because I just could not take it anymore. It never did get any better. I ended up moving, (not because of her). I never did figure out what her problem was.I would suggest you do not do, or say, ANYTHING that she can use against you. She will be video taping every little thing. You should probably invest in a video camera also, if you don't already have one. You might want to protect yourself down the road. When these kinds of people go off, you never can tell how bad it is going to get.

If I knew then, what I know now.

Good fences make good neighbors. These people sound like they thrive on confrontation and seem to be very shallow minded. There are more nut case bizarro neighbors out there than you can shake a stick at. Don't engage these people in anything but appropriate neighborly cordialities and don't call the police unless there is a crime or threat of life, limb, or property as you will get tagged as a nuisance and they may be very slow to respond when you may really need them.

Had a friend that had the same type problem with a bad neighbor.

He lived in an area of pretty well to do people, and they got together and bought the bad neighbors mortgage. They let him know what they'd done, and that he'd better not be late on his payments. Since the guy had poor credit and couldn't refinance, he had to sell the house and move!

I have one of those neighbors. Next house I buy I'll meet the neighbors before I even look at the inside of the house. When I moved in here there was a dying tree on the property line. I offered to have it removed because I was afraid it would fall on my barn. Twice I had a tree service here to remove the tree. This guy had his car parked on the lawn under it. He was home but wouldn't answer the door. 2 winters ago the tree fell and wiped out this guys junk van and hit the side of thier house. I was informed I was being sued. Well there never was a law suit, my lawyer ended that but quick. The biggest laugh of all this guys wifes ex-husband planted the dang thing 30 years ago! It turns out this guy has made a living off lawsuits and insurance companies. Not from me or mine though.

My family moved into a new home last July. I checked out the neighbors pretty closely before we bought. Our wonderful neighbors to the north are selling their house...We just hope somone decent moves in....

I will give you a lot of credit on the cat dropping. I finally got fed up with a dog in our old neighborhood that used to do his business in my yard almost everyday. I asked the owner several times to clean it up or take his dog elsewhere. He ignored me or cussed me depending on his mood. I finally started scooping up the poop, walking down the block and dropping it in his driveway. A couple of the other neighibors did the same. He finally started cleaning up after his dog.

I have a dog, a 1yr old boxer. The other day I had him outside and was taking him for a walk. This old guy who lives behind me comes rushing his fence and yelling "get that dog away from my fence", we were in the ally so I didn't pay any attention to him. THis old buzzard pulls out a can of mace and aims it at my dog. I immediately informed him he was in danger of having a can of mace forcefully placed into his * passage if he sprayed my dog. I didnt exactly state it that way though. Anyway I haven't seen the guy sence the encounter and don't think he'll be pulling his mace on me anymore either. I don't worry too much about cats unless they are spraying my house, that gets me upset. I hate when people let there dogs run though, pissing and crapping everywhere and getting into peoples garbage. The way I look at it, dogs are smart, they are trainable. My dog will only do his buisness in one corner of my yard. Cats are, well, not as trainable as dogs, but they usually burry their crap.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

I have always tried to get along with my neighbors.

I knew someone that took great delight in causing problems with his neighbors, always calling the police if their dogs were barking, music was too loud, etc. He even called the EPA because a car was leaking oil on the street, and threatened to sue city hall because he didn't think the city had proper handicapped access in their buildings. (he's in a wheelchair). After that, the cops stopped coming to his nuisance calls, and someone told his landlord what he was doing in the neighborhood. When his lease came up for renewal, the landlord sent him a notice to vacate, and put the house up for sale. The tenant even tried to buy the house, but the landlord was smart enough to price it higher than its value, so that he couldn't buy it. Finally, the guy moved to another city and I hear he's doing the same thing there.

How would you like to have him as a neighbor?
