How to drink like a Russian!

1) Russians are able to stay sober on vodka because Russian vodka sucks. I hate France, but those cheese-eating surrender monkeys make better vodka than do the Russians. For that matter, so do we.
2) Who the hell wants to eat what this guy suggests?
3) Shots are interesting, but I prefer drinks. I'm able to taste them and enjoy them. Shots are for slamming things down your throat and seeing how well you can take the burn.
4) While I do it out of habit, I don't know too many people who want to wake up at 5am to do anything except pee.
Lest anyone think this is a "good" practice, the average life expectancy of a Russian Male today is only 59 years!
Even high risk urban American Blacks live to be 71, on average.
whatever! try taking shots of Stoli while eating a rye-and-something sandwich. ooohhh yeah. You won't go back to your girly-man chasers. Vodka was meant to be eating with.
I don't ever drink without eating, but I'm a lightweight.
My comment was, who wants to eat what the author was suggesting.
I think you could probably swap out some equivilent American foods for what he is talking about. Chicken wings and fries come to mind.
I spent a lot of time in Moscow and St. Petersburg - in fact my wife is Russian and she's in St. Petersburg right now visiting her family.
If you want to see a lot of drunk men day and night, just walk down the streets of these cities or go in the Moscow subways. Alcoholism among men runs rampant - the strength in Russian families are the women. They tolerate a great deal of abuse if they have an alcholic husband but they (the women) are the ones who hold the family together and are the real foundation of Russian society
Vodka was promoted by the soviet government for years to pacify the masses - the only thing cheaper to drink there is water. You can buy it at kiosks on the street and pray that you won't be poisoned by it or you can go to quality stores such as in GUM in Moscow and buy high quality vodka which is usually too expensive for the average Russian.
I've been a guest in many Russian homes and no one has ever been even slightly offended because I chose to have only one or two drinks nor did they require me to eat the food described in the blog - in fact I never saw them doing it.
The average Russian family are among the most hospitable people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
One last thing - don't judge them by their politicans no more than anyone can judge us by our's - they are very much like us. No matter where I've traveled there - once they found out I was an American - they they treated me warmly and had a milion questions about life in the US.

I always figured that export beer was another word for "Light beer"..
It was the same with almost every other brand too - untill I at least found Tuborg and Carlsberg.
I guess, if someone is used to no-taste beer - well.. anything else will taste horrible. [}:)]
