number one rule in karate/martial arts, don't get hit. here is a very good reason why. i will be a black belt in four months, and i can tell you that girl is very good.
She will no doubt be a Black Belt at 12 yo. If not already...
Her punches sound like they have some STING to'um....[B)][:0]
m88.358win - got in there now ... thanks.
She is very good efficient in converting her power to the strike.
She is a great learner and has a great teacher as well.
Thanks again for the link, well done. [^]
That instructor is lucky he has pading in the right area.[:o)]
Unable to open it . . . not found!
+1
That little mite is good! I am glad to see girls learning how to fight, could keep them out of some big trouble as they get older.

That's because the guy is using the focus pads wrong, to make her strikes look a lot harder. Not to take anything from her, she's good, but the guy is gonna break her wrists doing it the way he is. He is providing at least 50% of the popping you hear.
Sound makes a strike sound a lot harder than it might be. When I taugh Ni Gojuryu, I'd wear heavy gi bottoms and starch them heavily. When I snapped out a sidekick my gi would slap the side of my leg, making a loud pop, and making the kick seem a lot harder. Used to get lots of oohs and ahhs doing that.
Same with hand strikes. If you making a "issh" sound with each strike, it appears to have been much harder than it was.
Here is a video of me competing at a karate tournament in Abilene, Tx. in 1993. Forward to about 4:36 to see what I'm talking about, you can hear my gi slapping my leg during my sidekick:

=o) Wow.
Besides, the older thaiboxing styles - you get points for hitting or kicking.
You get more points for hitting hard or kicking hard.
You get most points if you hit or kick so flippin' hard the opponent can't use his arms/legs.

That's Olympic Style, or what we used to call Potty Karate. [:D] They can't even punch to the face in OS, nor are groin shots legal.
In Point Sparring, which was our style, you get 1 point for a punch to a legal area, and 2 points for a kick, and groin shots aere legal (my specialty...in the video above I scored 2 points with groin kicks).
In point sparring, those below black belt cannot go to the face and have to use controlled contact (not full power). Once you get to black belt, full power and face contact is ok. After years of teaching myself not to go to the face, it took me a little while once I was a black belt to realize I could now go to the face.
The style where elbow, knees and head were legal weapons too.
You really had to be UP for a fight, "nearly up for it"... doesn't count.
Well, that's how it worked in the old MuayThai Thaiboxing I practised a while back.

Yeah, we couldn't use knees or "hell"bows. That Muay Tai is some whicked stuff!
It was that ability to fall properly that landed me a 5 year "athletic sponsorship" from 4 large prosthetic manufacturers after losing my leg in a car accident 10 months after that video. I made the case to them that I was the perfect guy to help them test new prosthetic components because falling wasn't going to hurt me.[:D]
But did get into a brawl at a bar once, that ended ugly - not for me though. That got me thinking - and I stopped. Didn't like the person I became, or should I say, the ability it gave me.
Fractured, dislocated and broken jaw
broken collarbone
three fractured/broken ribs
two cracked ribs
broken upper arm
dislocated hipjoint
fractured and broken thighbone
That's some of the stuff I did to my opponent, I don't remember wether or not he had a sprained knee also.
I only know the above, because I know the attending nurse (sister to my gf in Denmark) - and because I got to speak with him some time later at the same bar.
Nice fellow actually - and thanked me for putting a stop to his ill temper that night.
All I did, was walk in between him and a friend of mine who was nearly out cold.
Only practised it for the workout.

Yeah, although it sounds bad, and not at all in the martial spirit, I have always regretted that I never had a chance to see what I could have done in a real situation. I was about ready to test for 3rd degree when I had my wreck, and I had an awful lot of very good techniques in my arsenal back then. There was no way the average joe was going to stop my backfist, it was so quick that even 5th degree black belts that knew I was going to throw it, couldn't stop it. I used it to daze, to buy myself a few seconds to land more devastating strikes that had a good chance of ending the fight. I could break (5) 1" boards with a step-up sidekick, I could easily bend a guy's knee backwards.
I did have sparring matches that morphed into fights with a local football star, then a Marine fresh out of boot camp, then a local gangbanger. I thumped all of them handily, but they weren't real fights.
Can't help but love the girl in the clip. She got a good start, that's for sure. =o) She's bound to surprise an attacker. [:D]
