In saw your hat post before you deleted it. I wasn't trying to come off as a snob and I hope you didn't take it that way. As a kid I spent two to three months a year with my very old fashioned grandfather. He taught me manners. If I forgot those manners they were beat into my memory. As a result the habits are hard to break and I'll never forget them. The last time I wore a baseball cap I was 12 and made the mistake of coming into the cottage with it on. I learned those rules on the end of a razor strop.

And if those rules seem to be the mark of a snob, think again, they were taught to me by the son of an Ohio coal mining hillbilly.

And if anybody thinks it was abuse, they don't know how much a hard head this guy was as a kid.

Just a thought on your recent truck loss. I just looked at the photos of the remnants. Terrible, just terrible. Looks like the major components might be ok though. If the damned insurance co ever settles you might consider a new 'glider' kit. New cab and frame using your existing powertrain and suspension components. A lot of states will then issue you a new title for a 2003 model. Then refi as a 'new' truck. Should work out as a lot cheaper than replacement of the whole truck. Oh well just a thought.

How far are you from my part of NY??
There's a gunshow next weekend at the Monroe County fairgrounds (Rochester). If your not too far away why don't you bring your son up and do the show. It's a pretty good sized one. Ask pabooger, he's been to the last couple of them. I assume your boy is older than ten yrs old, that's the age limit placed by show management.

The answer to the bed thing is yes and while I'm on the subject when you are choosing a resteraunt for a romantic anniversary dinner don't worry if the food is good or bad just find a joint that is dimly lit, has a decent wine list and table clothes that go all the way to the floor.
Did you ever get my e-mail? Just tell me where to send it.

LOL! Most of those postings are done out of fun, it's sooo easy to get some of these guys wound up!

That other fella who just started posting is a friend of mine, we been huntin together for 10 years, give or take one or 2, and I decided to introduce him to the board right, with a little harmless flamin. as far as the .223, I used to be somewhat like some of the other guys. I never said it wouldnt kill deer, I just always said it is not for beginers. After huntin with Deadeye I have realy seen what can be done with one of those and I hunt with one now. But I will stand by this comment, inside 150 yds, on deer it is just as deadly as a 30-06. I won't argue one bit about long range shootin with it, you just got to have the right tool for the job.

The carb, I have another friend who has realy given me the push on hotrodding and he has helped me with a few of my cars, this guy ran a Wieand Tunnel Ram with 2 holley 450s on a cammed to dork and back 283 chevy in an 1969 Chevelle, would you believe that heavy sled would run 12s?

But anyhow, if you like stirrin up the dust, this is the place to do it. Beware, you need to have thick skin, some of these guys get mean. A couple you do not want on your bad side, Salzo, Whiteclouder and LIKTOSHOOT. These guys get mean and will make you feel bad if you can't take critisizm(sp?).

So that being said, welcome to the board and post away. Just remember to be nice, Nunn loves playing with his "poof" button!

    Thanks for the info.

After working 25 years for the Al. Troopers, dealing with the public
and dealing with the troops, the skin is pretty tough. Facts is facts
and opinions is just that. Know what I mean....

Say you use a NEF .223? Did you do some trigger work to it? Any other modifications? I have been thinking about getting one in
a diff. caliber. I already have the AR and the 700 in .223.

ON the 12 sec. Chevelle, 1/4 or 1000 ft., couldn't have been an 1/8
(too slow). Most of the strips down here run 1/8 mile now. I don't like it. I think the one at Steele, AL is 1/4, not sure. I go more for round track now.

The chevelle ran 12s in the 1/4

No I have not done any trigger work to the .223. I have two of those guns, the other is a .243 and the triggers are different. A friend of mine has one and his trigger is lighter than mine. I have an old H&R shotgun I expiremented with, but I'm scared to try it on the .223. It needs trigger work but I'm scared to try it. I now it can be done and if I find literature to step me thru it I will try.

    I haven't worked on a hammer/trigger in a NEF. The only thing
I could suggest is smooth the sear notch with a fine stone. I think
that is about all you can do. If I run across any info on this I will
    let you know.

I found this page awhile back and here is where I got the idea to experiment with the old shotgun, but I need more detailed info before I try it on the .223.

    Hey 7mm,

What are you shooting in that 760? If you are loading for
it, cut back on the powder a little. Hey, when my brother
started reloading (30'06), he didn't have a scale, just eyeballed it!!! It is a wonder he is still here.
Are the scopes slipping in the rings, or is the recoil tearing out the innards? Has the stock been cut, maybe the wrong angle? I load
my .270 near or at max. I used IMR4064 one time and it kicked like
a P O'ed mule. Went to H-4831, no problem, recoil is light. I loaded some 130 gn bullets one time, think they were Speer, at max with the H-4831. Didn't shoot worth a toot. Got mad, pulled the bullets, loaded 150 gn. RN's on top of the max 130 gn load. Forgot
to check the manual. Had a pretty good wump to it, checked the brass,
pressure signs not bad, and the round was very accurate. Checked the
book, and it was several grains overloaded. Haven't done that again.

I use 150 grain Siera game king BTs with 61 grains of IMR 4831, chronos an average of 2800fps. The funny thing about that gun, the faster the velocity the better it shoots, I could slow things down a bit and the group opens right up, it has to have hot loads. The scopes, it is knocking the innards loose with the recoil. I bought a brand new scope last year, shot #1 the scope got blurry, after 5 shots yuo couldnt even see out of it. If I tapped on the scope while looking thru it I could see stufff moving in there, not good. It has killed 4 scopes in 3 years, the last one being the worse. The stock was never cut, it is in factory condition, with scratches of course. This thing is like holding a 4x4 to your shoulder, kicks like hell, feels like someone is slamming the muzzle with a big hammer whenever you shoot it. Most of the rifles I shoot come back and up in a smooth motion, not this thing, straight back with one hell of as jerk. If it didnt shoot so well it would be gone, this is by far the most accurate pump gun I have ever seen(as long as the scope holds up) and will probably have it for a long time.

You know, it just seems like some guns are like that. Same model,
etc., and one will knock your teeth out, and another one isn't bad.
I got an old 94C stevens 12 ga., It kicks with low power bird shot.
Like I said on the other post, I really like the Leupold on my .270.
