This is a song I like, a lot. It reminds me of so many old timers in my past, and many that are still here. I just wish I had been bright enough, as a kid, to write down a lot of what those old folks had to say. Truth be told, a good part of it wouldn't have been allowed on here, but it was the real deal. Mostly. When you're dealing with old men, there is always the slightest chance of a slight fabrication, or twelve.

My neighbor (when I lived in Mt. Juliet, TN) Guy Clark wrote the song. Really good one.
I would expect that he was an interesting man to talk to. A man don't write like that, without having a lot of stories behind him.
They were gone a lot, but I still remember seeing Guy mowing his yard on a Farmall B belly mower tractor!
