I sold some stuff to this guy in December of 2001. He was not happy with what he got so he issues a charge back with his credit card company and sent the stuf back. Once I got my stuff back I sent him a refund from my pocket. The charge back for $1400 went thru any way and Pay pal Restricted my account. I told paypal time and time again I want my money back and they have ignored me. 8 months later I get a email from paypal saying The charge back has been in put in my favor and I will get my money back. To tell the truth I had totally forgot about the $1400 (how sick is that). Has any one else had bad history like this with them???

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

All you need to do is go to Google and search for PayPal horror stories and you'll find plenty. I know people on this board have had good luck with PP but I wouldn't touch it w/ a 10' pole!

You're lucky to get your money back at all!

Paypal has caused many problems for sellers, and buyers.

I bought a Rolex watch that ended up being a fake, Paypal refused to do anything about it, because I got a "watch". Ended up sicking Citicorp's fraud department on them, disputed the charge and won after 4 months. I closed my account with them, and even closed the bank account I had that Paypal had the account number to; one guy I know had money taken from his bank account after a buyer returned an item that he bought 18 months previous. He's still trying to get his money out of Paypal. I'll never do business with them again!

I have heard that PayPal lets buyers reneg, so when you have your money it is possible you don't have your money. That's why some people only allow payment by bank account, not credit cards, while other sellers won't take PayPal at all.

I get my money moved to my bank account immediately when there's a customer PayPal payment (transfers are free), before the customer receives the item. I ever catch PayPal debiting my bank account without my explicit direction to pay someone, and they'll explain it to my lawyer the hard and expensive way.

I would never use Pay Slam ever again. Those jerks ripped me off and I will never use their service again. They don't respond, they don't care, they can kiss my *ss.
If you use them it is just a matter of time until they steal from you.

I had a similar problem with paypal, and have a restricted account. Paypal never gave me back a cent. ONLY pay by credit card when buying online, unless you really trust the person.

If you look at the bottom line of any of my auctions, it says, "Check or MO only, NO PAYPAL."

There is a reason for that.

Well I am going to take my money and run. I just hope this screwed up buyer does not want any trouble because it took 8 months to get my money back from his credit card. He may have tought that he had a extra $1400. Oh well.

    Lurker,
Why is it Paypal's fault that YOU bought a fake Rolex? That is YOUR job to make sure it is real.

Personally, I have no sympathy for someone who buys stuff like a Rolex online. Thats NOT the venue to buy high-priced items!

Like I said before, I have something like 30,000+ transations with Paypal, and have only had a few problems with them. If you are careful about WHO you are sending money to, you'll be ok.

If you think about it, Paypal has so many complaints because SO many people use it.

For the record......the only time I've been ripped off was when I sent a guy a check........

I've got a fake Rolex, but I knew it was fake when my girlfriend got it for me as a hoot. It lasted about as long as it was worth -- $50. Still got it around here someplace, but never tried to have it fixed. The people that put these together used to frequently strip the threads on the watch back, so they're hard to take off and put back on. But they're cute, if you like costume jewelry and enjoy faking out snob strangers in restaurants, I guess.

    Merc,

I wasn't asking for sympathy when I posted the problems had with Paypal. And yes, they are responsible when a merchant commits fraud.
(According to the State Attorney General of Utah; the sellers state).
When they were informed of this by the UT AG, they immediately reversed the charge back to the seller.

I did everything possible to validate it was real. This guy was a real pro, had phoney photos, gave me phony model and serial numbers, even had a phony appraisal on the watch. He ended up in Federal Prison over this and many other cons.

There are legitimate Rolex sellers online, and the next time I bought a watch it was exactly as described.

You assumed that the watch was a "high priced item" , it was a stainless steel watch and sold for less than $1000.00 --- I've seen many guns sell online for much more than that.

If you've had 30,000 transactions with PayPal with no problems, you're the exception and not the rule. There are many websites out there with hundreds of people that have had problems, and I hear a class action lawsuit has been filed against them.
