The struggle of a few good cartridges.

The 10mm Auto, .41 Remington Magnum, 9 x 23 Winchester... All have "failed" or have become "dormant" for various reasons. I have heard most of them, e.g. 10mm. (too powerful).. strange, I own three (2 pistols and a revolver) and have had no trouble shooting, or reloading (within SAMMI pressure limits, of course) any of them. The .41 Magnum, "Overhadowed" by the .44 Magnum. This also seems strange. I find them adequate for hunting, recreation and personal defense. Oh, well. 9 x23 Winchester, "reqires a .45 ACP size frame" Waaaaah! Darned crybabies! This is THE answer to the ".357 S&W Magnum in a 'service-sized' autoloader, but NO! we need more "firepower" over "loadpower"! What poppycock! The "wimpmobile" is about to leave the garage! Will the entire gun manufacturing industry please climb aboard?

It is time to grow up and get a grip on the problem, ladies and gentelemen. are we going to let the "tail wag the dog", or are we going to grab the bull by the tail and face the situation?

Any comments and/or questions are welcome,

Gunfan.

Hey I am a fan of the 10mm and .41 Mag...Wish there were more options out there also. There is just one major problem and you already mentioned it....They never really caught on. IF sales are not there, then why should the different companies invest their time and effort in something that will not make a profit...

    So what is your solution?

William has it nailed. These companies are not there for our entertainment, they are there to make a buck. If it doesn't sell, it doesn't survive. Do they make dumb mistakes? Sure they do. A lot of what is offered is unneeded, but offered to try to catch another little niche in the market. Like most things anymore, it is about money.

Gunfan, welcome to the neighborhood.I think you will fit in right nicely.Darn good first shot.

Being involved in the outdoor business.I can tell you it's the buyer that controls the market.I just saw four great game calls droped from our line. The ones of us involved in there development spent many days perfecting these calls.Public did not buy,So bye-bye to a lot of hard work.

Ladies and gentlemen: The marketplace is a fickle thing and I don't always like where it goes! the .357 SIG is a "weak sister" when compared to the 9 x 23 Winchester. It needs but a "9mm platform" to contain the cartridge in a "double stack" configuration, while the 9 x 23 Winchester requires that of a .45 ACP.

"The .45 Auto aquits itself quite well", I hear "old slabsides" advocates cheer. I quite agree. There remains the fact, however, that the .357 S&W Magnum is truly the "king" of the defensive handgun cartriges only the latest (and hottest) .40 S&W have begun to eclipse this "bad boy" of the stopping power set. The .357 Sig does reasonably well at the game, but the 9 x 23 Winchester simply outperforms it from the handgun and in terminal ballistics. Why do we need 12-14 shots, when the fight can be won with only 8-9 rounds expended? this perpetrates the "spray and pray" mentality among both LEO's and citizens alike.

    Just a thought,

    Gunfan.

Dear people: The answer to this ballistic travesty is to revive these cartriges by increased DEMAND. If the police departments won't ask for these fine rounds, WE MUST! The 10mm Automatic is far from dead. It is a current sweetheart in the IDPA games. The S&W 610 revolver is a real paticipant in these matches.

Our lack of "ink" in the gun magazines is another problem. They nearly ALWAYS write about the .45, .44 Remington Magnum, .40 S&W, or the .357 SIG. (yawn). The .41 Magnum is one of the most versatile handguns Elmer Keith had the genius to generate, yet it laguishes due to a lack of bullet types and variety of load data. This cartridge, IMHO, is one of the best ever conceived, but Law Enforcement officials overlooked the "modern" proper loadings. The Silvertip Hollowpoint kicks bootie, takes names and works at short ranges as if the world were it's "oyster" and it can open any "can" in the house! Besides, it can, and does, drop deer as if it were a bad habit! Well, it works for me! Do we give Elmer and his brainchild their proper due? Ha! We relegate it to "limited hunting" status and permit it to gather dust as a defensive firearm! What fools these mortals be! (To coin a phrase).
