The Illinois branch of the ATF has determined after a week that a rifle made in 1898 that had it's serial number peened could be made legal by the ingenius method of stamping a new number on it. They have passed their determination on to the NC branch of the ATF and now they will survey all of the records to track down a number that they know is not on another rifle of that make and model so that it can be put on mine. I suggested that they use the number 000001 and save themselves the bother of researching such a vast data base to find something that isn't there. You understand this right? They are trying to find a number that hasn't been used by searching a data base of used numbers. This could take a while. Do you have to be lobadomized to work in government or does just being naturally stupid do?
