Ok so I have always wanted to go but never was able to. My life took some major direction changes in 2016 and looking to start over.

At any rate my girlfriend surprised me with tickets to Vegas and I finally get to go!!!

Anyone else planning on going? I would love to meet some of the members if they have the time. Take care.

Are you under the impression that it's open to the public?
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

May I ask, how did she get the tickets?

No matter how the rules change or to what degree the emphasis is placed on the membership to this industry, there will always be those that thrive by beating the system.

SHOT Show is no different. It has improved, now to the point where even those of us with a legitimate need to be there have to justify our association with the industry before being granted (and paying for) a pass. But the improvement in the crowds alone is worth the task.

I will be there for the last two days of SHOT Show and then head over to the Antique Arms Show for two days. Unfortunately, my dance card is full with meetings during the day and a few even in the evening. I can't get any face time without a schedule these days. Given the importance of the changes in the industry, I have to bend to the will of the suppliers if I want to have access to their wares for my work.

Good Luck getting around that facility. It is an ant hill in the worst of designs. You might try downloading the app for your phone to help you get around. I used a printed map to assist with planning meetings as efficiently as possible.

    Best.

I think what Rocky and I are getting at is, you don't "just" buy the Tickets online. We were hoping that you/she didn't get ripped off!

If I was a betting man, I would bet that 'telohf' meant that his girlfriend purchased airline tickets online and then he made the arrangements with someone else to get into SHOT Show.

That's how I took it, also. But there's still the matter of needing accreditation to get in. Which was never easy, and is much less so nowadays.

Wow I guess I didn't realize this was going to turn into a secret squirrel conspiracy. I just wanted to know if anyone was going to the event.

I applied online for my name badge to get in. I am an LEO and an FFL dealer so I hope that will qualify me. They don't charge you until you have been approved. I hope I didn't apply too late since it was a surprise.

    telohf,

It's not a secret squirrel conspiracy at all, most of us probably didn't know that you had any affiliation with the industry so we were surprised, that's all.

For years, getting into SHOT Show was as simple as asking your FFL or your local store owner for a copy of their FFL which was used to get you qualified for a badge. Some little local stores were found to have as many as 15 - 20 Buyers... Those who attended for matters of actually doing business were instantly greeted with 3 and 4 people deep at nearly every booth. The folks who had real business to do with the suppliers were staggered by the waits and lack of ability to resolve orders which generally represented a year's worth of products for their businesses.

The result is as you see today, everyone must qualify themselves until your qualifications have been on file and you have joined the NSSF. Here is the short list for qualifying:

    QUALIFICATION FOR YOURSELF

    Your Email URL of employer
Current payroll stub or direct deposit confirmation
    Current healthcare carrier I.D. card
Suppliers Invoices with your personal name
Law enforcement and military personnel registering as "Buyers" must furnish a written statement from their commanding officer or other superior in their chain of command verifying purchasing authority.
Other appropriate documentation that clearly demonstrates your industry affiliation.

The following are NOT acceptable documents: Business cards, firearms permits, FOIDs, hunting licenses and NRA or other affiliate firearms instructor permits.

Please send as an email attachment to regmgr@SHOT.convexx.com, or fax to 702.450.7732.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

    The SHOT Show Management

This might suggest why we were a little surprised with your announcement. I quite frankly could care less. My meetings have been agreed to and scheduled, my time is accounted for efficiently without having to move enmasse from booth to booth like a fish in a stream.

Good Luck with your plan and enjoy.

    Best.

It's not a private click, its a trade show. Makes sense that it would restrict attendance to wholesalers, not lookie-loos. My wife is attending a jewelry and gift trade show there, next week. Same restrictive criteria.

I've been to one SHOT show, in 1996, when it was in Dallas. As a FFL, I received an invitation in the mail, with an offer to buy tickets. As an ammo buyer for my PD, I was invited and given FREE tickets to attend. So, another instructor/rangemaster and I attended for free.

It was interesting, and I would go again, in Dallas, for free, but that's not happening. At one time the show rotated locations between Dallas, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and maybe Orlando. I don't remember all the locations. But now, the powers that be have been convinced that Las Vegas is the place to be.

I didn't lose anything in Las Vegas.

PS: I guess they don't automatically send invites to FFLs anymore. At least, I haven't gotten one in several years.

Be proud as part of the 'elite' crowd.

    Whatever!

edit: those who are incensed by some "lowly schlep" who might have "snuck" into their secret lair without proper credentials are, quite frankly, laughable!

Its a TRADE show. Ever tried to get into the American Water Works Show? How about POWERGen? How about CES? This is not a CONSUMER show it is only for people in the TRADE, (AVN is here in town, you can buy tickets to get in to that)

As others have said the exhibitors here have spent hundreds of thousands of $ to be here. They want to spend time with real buyers not tire kickers. Most manufacturers will write 80-90% of their business for the year at this 4 day show. Want to go to a good Consumer Gun Show head to the NRA annual convention or the Great American Outdoor show. Same exhibitors are there, but it is a totally different focus. Cowboy Christmas was just here in Vegas and was open to the public, again most of the same folks. We are at all of those.

If you are in Vegas next week, come see us Booth 15147... Gotta get some shut eye, tomorrow is a long day.

I didn't take it as bragging about it. More like a "who else is going to be there" like he said.

Maybe he was interested in meeting other members.

I've been to a bunch of them, both as a boothie and as a working writer. Having worked both sides of it, I can vouch that the percentage of what I'll call "sneak-ins" is way too high. It's a huge show, but with 75,000 people attending, the aisles are simply slowly moving rivers of people, elbow to elbow. If you have appointments at several places, you may never get there.

And you can always tell the sneak-ins. They're the ones with shopping carts overflowing with freebies. Someone whose only question is "What you giving away?" is NOT in the intended audience.

Frankly, I'm overjoyed that I never have to go to another one.

But it IS an overwhelming experience. Congrats to you, telohf. Report back with your impressions, please.

Interesting stuff. I am not a FFL guy or dealer.

Who would have thought that the buyers would place orders for so much stuff in one month, rather 1 day of the year?

I could see a Dicks, or Walmart type operation committing to 100K .22 rifles or something but for most non national FFLs to place such large orders at the shot show seems odd.

I can also understand that the important buyer guys from Buds or Walmart doesn't want to "wait in line" to place a 250,000 to a million dollar order!!!

Funny though you would think someone so important spending that kind of dough would get a visit from Bushmaster or whoever and a chance to place that order over lunch or dinner??!! [8D][}:)]

I would imagine though that all of those FFL buyers except of course government & LEO are planning to sell those wares to the consumers who might just give a good indication based on those crowds as to what might sell? [:)]

Anyway I can't get in and even if I could have no intention of going to the show. I am just a consumer who buys a few guns and loses em in the lake. [8D]
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

There are special prices on things that you order at the Shot Show.....something that is normally $249 wholesale will be $225 or less, plus there are deals on free items if you order enough. Its not that you CAN'T order whenever or however many you want....its getting the new client that is the goal. Once they have you as a customer you tend to order from the same people over and over again.

There are so many distributors that its impossible to keep up with who has the best deals on things. Some offer free shipping.....some have extra mags....some will have allocated things that are hard to get. The allocated items go to the best customers.....so you want to spread your ordering among as few people as possible so you are "more important" to the guys you do buy from.

I got my FFL many years ago because I was tired of paying the outrageous prices from the local dealers. I mostly use it for my personal use but do sell to others as well on occasion.

Now that Im the range instructor( I get to work with Clint Smith from Thunder Ranch) for my PD it helps me with that as well.

I got invited twice , by a friend, to work his booth with him. He is the ammunition supplier for most NJ police dept. I never went. It is just not my thing. It is a trade show and like others have said, they really don't want to have a bunch of lookie lous there. It might be a great show, for all I know, I am just not interested. My friend and some others are going. They go every year and more or less just go the help set up and then go sight seeing, while Tom is at the show. Oakie

Our booth is UP and mostly complete. The logistics of getting a 30x50 booth onsite and assembled is a formidable task. VISTA is across from us and their booth is 6x as big as ours (60x 150). I tried to do a time lapse of us putting it up today but the GoPro was not having much to do with it. It may have worked. Still playing with it.

For your entertainment here is us tearing down the booth last year.... Enjoy

Looks like I won't be going this year. This year, for the first time the Shot Show is reviewing my application. The show starts tomorrow and no word. Mabe next year.
