I keep seeing these machines on tv, and I've worked with cryovac food in restaurants. I would like to know if any of you fellers have one and do you like it? Sears has a couple diff models for sale. I have to convince my wife that she wants one too. It would be great for freezing game I think.

I use one all the time. I even use it to vacuum primers, powders, etc. They are great for freezing anything, because the freezer burn will never take place with no air in the bag. There is a learning curve with finding out how to vacuum meats as sometimes the air will not all be sucked out (chicken breasts especially, and ground beef) You have to try to press the meat into the bottom of the bag and fill up the entire bottom area before removing the air. Once you get your way of doing things down, it is a great thing to have. Look at the ones made by Tilia.

Vegetables can be frozen without getting soggy also.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I purchased mine years ago at our local Fair. It cost about $300 then. It's the real Food Saver made by Tilia and it's still going strong. Currently, Wal Mart is selling these for around $100. Like JustC said, it can be used to preserve almost anything you can get in the bags. It's well worth the money..

I have the Food Saver made by Tilia (bought it on ebay) and it works well. I used to waste/ruin frozen meat due to freezer burn, but not anymore.

My wife bought ours. I bought her a better one so I could have the old one. I use it to drypack ammo for storage and for wet hunts. I also vacumn pack coffee and freeze it as well as all of the meat and game I freeze. These things are great. I even oil and vacumn packed some of my old guns for long term storage.

I also have the Food Saver (made by Tilia). It is great. You can't go wrong with one of these gadgets. Vacuum seal everything from food to ammo. Like dheffley, I've also oiled up and vacuum sealed rifles -- a pair of Mosin Nagant rifles (seperately) and a pouch of 200 rounds of 7.62x54R soft point ammo (also seperately) and hid them in our hunting cabin, for back-up rifles in case someone has a problem with their regular rifle or something.

Good question, I've been thinking about one for some time....do the bags have to be anything special or will any work?

The bags come in rolls of 11" & 8" wide. So, you can vacuum seal something long. Also come in square bags if you want them that way. I don't think any other bags but those sold for the Food Saver will work. Not sure of that though.
