Shot the Rugers...

Classic and I went to the range today to try out the Rugers I had purchased on Monday.... As usual, Classic was a great shot.... hope to be as good one day...

Okay.. now for the Ruger SP 101... NO BLEEDING WAY...Granted its a very nice gun.. good weight.. accurate...feels good in the hand... BUT.. what a horrid trigger pull... Classic explained that it had a long trigger pull because its double action only... NO THANK YOU... phooey..Its just not for me...

Next tried the Ruger Standard.. Target... oh wow... so nice...accurate as all get out.. very nice weight.. excellent feel in the hand..and the trigger pull?... very nice indeed...just right as a matter of fact...Now that is a gun I could keep..just for target practice that is....

And yes people.. I was cutting the 8, 9 and 10 ring with every round... not as good as Classic, and I probably never will be.. but still pretty good if I do say so myself... but then I had a wonderful teacher....

    BlackRoses;

Next time you fire the SP101, if you are righthanded, grasp the butt of the grip with your lefthand with more force than with your righthand. you'll find that you are able to concentrate on the trigger pull more because you are not trying to hold the gun up and pull the trigger at the same time. I'm sure you already use two hands to shoot but try holding the bottom with alot more power than you normally do with other guns.

You can dry fire Ruger SP101's all you want. Unload the gun, aim it at somebody on the TV and practice this method.

If I remember right you bought a Spurless-hammer model (Double-Action only).

BlackRoses: You can also have a spring kit put in the sp101, these sell for under $20 and can be put in at home , they usally come with up to 3 or 4 different hammer and trigger springs ,, I usually put in the lightest ones first and see if I get 100% ignition if not put in a heavier one... If you are ever at the market again and come across a Ruger Redhawk in 357 mag or 41 mag for $300 or less in good condition buy it, you can get your money back and more in a heart beat, there weren't very many of these made and they've been discontinued for several years now !

Thanks for the tip gskhawk... will pick one up asap.. kit that is...As stated..the SP 101 is nice.. I just didnt like the trigger pull... As for the market.. Classic and I go about once a month to that one... When tourist season starts... (sept).. it grows about 5 times at least in size... I go alone or with a g/f occasionally.. but most with Classic as its something we both enjoy so much.. I will keep my eyes open for one...

Da**... I always feel so goooooooooooooooooood after going to the range... *LOL

It's so awesome, to me, for you to be so into shooting, I don't know any other female like that. I see a couple others out at the range but they're just there to impress others. They really don't look as if they're really enjoying themselves, like you and I do. It's just about as good as sex to me, especially if I'm shooting really well or I get to shoot something big! Is it that good for you too or am I totally deranged?

well Blackroses..I love to shoot also and am pretty fair with either hand..just ask snarlgard..my hubby..
I don't like double action guns at all..we had one that I insisted on buying because it felt good in my hand..but at the range..I said phooey also. We traded it at the next gun show for a 357 that snarlgard felt was made just for him. Me..Give me a good 1911A1 45acp any day! or an ar 15...
Keep 'em in the 10 ring..

WHEW !!!!!! all this talk about BIG BANGGGGGGGs............

Hey Hawk, here where I am, the Reds are hard to find... So I picked up a Security 6 in 357 with P/M grips ,,feels and handels reallll good.... But I do have a Super Red in 44 mag with a 1.5x4 burris on top that works real nice with a 7.5 brl....I have taken white tail out to a bit over 100 yds with it....

I will say this for the lady shooters out there.... It is Nice to see you all out at the range and in the field...

Daddy2B8162: Ha I know what you mean about all this talk !!!! I was going to say something but figured I probably sound like an idiot so I just let it go ,,, I did have my wife read it , and asked her which she though was better she just gave me one of those looks that say " have you hit your head again or something, I"ll take sex any day "" then she said would'nt you ? I had to stop and think for a second boy did I get in trouble ...
Any ways getting back to the Rugers over the years I've had the Redhawks in 357 , 41, 44 and the 45 colt and have taken deer with several of them , but for some reason have sold them all wish I still have them! Security Six is a fine weapon, I 've had 6 of them over the years but they too are gone , right now the only ones I have are Super Redhawks one in 454 and 480 both with 7 1/2 barrel ,, just got the 480 and have only shot 20 rounds thru it so far but it was fun ,, may let the 454 go if the 480 works out will have to see once I have time to do some shoooting with it ...

I don't know what it is Hawk, I had sold my Super Red @6 years ago. But I sold it to my brother. He had it for a while, and with enough broow beating, I bought it back from him. If he would not have returned the sale, I would have got the Super Red in the 454. From what I here on the 480, its a tough round, but the 454 does just a bit more on the distance. Of course, not from personnel experiance though, but from hunting buddies that have.

    Good Shooting !!!!! Ed

A buddy of mine had a GP100, he had a trigger job done on it. I think they replaced some springs and did some polishing and maybe did some modification to the hammer or something, but boy was that a smooth trigger afterwards.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

The only Rugers I have had the pleasure of were single actions (bearcat/blackhawk), but I have to agree that the trigger pull should be able to be made like butter. I have tuned all my Smith's to fire so beautifully smooth in double that you almost don't need the single action capability.
(I felt bad for the double action, had to stick up for it)

boy you guys are up and at it early, but hey back to the post , I have my Ruger 480 in getting it worked on right now, the gun smith is putting in a spring kit and then smoothing and polishing all the works , he said it should end up about a 3 lb trigger, usally I put the spring kits in myself but nobody had one for the SRH so it had to be order any how , firgure he was ordering it he may have well put it in, will let you know how it turns out

I have the SP101 with a 21/4 in barrel in .357mag and a GP100 with a six In Barrel both shoot well and have good triggers. But If you put a .38 special in either to plink with.Forget it I cant hit a Barn with them. But with the full power .357s they shoot better Im sure than I can.My Smiths in .357 will shoot .38s I sure wish the Rugers would,it would be more cost effective and I could have more range time.
