Zephyrhills, Florida-AP -- A 70-year-old man is recovering today in a Florida hospital after breaking both legs and sustaining other injuries in a parachuting accident.

Arch Deal's primary parachute failed yesterday after he jumped from a plane at 14-thousand 5-hundred feet. His backup parachute worked but he was injured because he made a turn too fast and too close to the ground.

It's nothing new to Deal.

The former T-V anchor survived a three-thousand-foot plunge into Cypress Gardens 27 years ago. In that instance, Deal's main and emergency parachutes became tangled and he fell at an estimated 130 miles-per-hour before a tree broke his fall.

Deal has been jumping for about 30 years has more than 55-hundred jumps.

I never could understand why anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

Merc, I'm scared of heights but I love rappelling. I hope to one day parachute, but it's a little too expensive for me. It sounds so fun!
