Are four wheelers accepted in your state?

There is currently a big drive in the State of Pennsylvania, against the use of four wheelers. The Game commision is really cracking down on four wheelers traveling on restricted land. It seems that they wish to totally abolish the use of four wheelers and snowmobiles in this state.
Most of the land around here is open for hunting but most is restricted to four wheeler travel. I believe it is a $300 dollar fine if caught on this property. There are a few State trails but the restrictions on using them are many.
My nephew lives in Wisconsin and they seem to cater to the four wheelers and have hundreds of miles of public trail for there use.
They recognize the sport as a good income for the state.
Pennsylvania in turn is comprised of vast forest regions owned by the state and many major paper companies, both of which tend to frown on any four wheeler activity.
Im sure some of this has been brought on by selfish riders who like to just tear up the woods. Also Im sure there has been some law suits inflicted on these landowners, by individuals.
Personally I sold my four wheelers a few years ago, as I seen this coming. Nothing irritates me more than to walk 3 miles into the woods, to get into a hunting spot, and have some dude ride around in front of me on his four wheeler.
I do see the value of them as a means of getting to your hunting spot, especially for older, less agile hunters. It would be nice to use them to get to a spot then park them and get off and hunt.
I am by no stretch of the word against four wheelers, Im just curious as to how the different States are handling this.

I have a big problem with four wheeling kids riding on my property. They tear up the grassy fields and my orchard and often go whizzing through my shooting range while I'm shooting!! The dang fools!! All I need is for one of them to crash on my property and their parents will sue me like what happened to a fellow down the road. You have to make your land inaccessable to them with fences, signs or roadblocks or you are enticing them by having open land for them to tear up on. What a crock! The ones I catch I take the keys and tell them to send their parents to retrieve the machine. I show the parents the damage they do and the shooting range and tell them next time I'm keeping the thing to sell for damages. Some folks sell the machine some don't. There is really no-where local for them to ride so why buy your kid one unless you are willing to haul them out to the boonies to ride?

A little harsh don't you think BDJ?[:D][:D]
All it takes is a couple idiots on Yamaha Banshees to ruin it for everyone else. I see a lot of good uses for them but it is a shame that the kids and even some "adults" see open trails and other areas as a cross country race course, they have no respect for the land and the animals who live there as well as respect for those who own the property and those who wish to enjoy the land without a "Nascar Race" performed with 4 wheelers running around tearing everything up.

Blackie, around here if you don't join a club with a lease or have a lease yourself then you ain't hunting any where. The leases are up to three dollars an acre now and rising. 110 bucks for a bird club, 500 for a big game club, 40 bucks for a sportsman's license etc... Twenty years ago I could take a gun into the woods and fields anywhere and hunt anything in season as long as I didn't leave a mess behind. Course we all knew each other then before the city dwelling yankees invaded and started seeing dollar signs on the hunt lands.

BigDaddy we are all yankees up here and we have plenty of land to hunt on without paying. In texas where there are not many Yankees you all have to pay to hunt in a lot of places. Same out west. Big daddy you should move to Pennsylvania where us yankees would not make a die-hard Reb like you all to pay.[:D][:D][:D]

When I was a child, I thought as a child. But now that I am grown, I just wish I could act like a child and get away with it.
I love to ride and there are a lot of places to ride where I live but some people have no respect for the land on which they ride. They throw trash and spin in the fields where they have no business riding.
I put rock on my mountain rode which runs about $200 a load and some atv riders try to see how far they can scatter the rock is another example of no respect. If I could catch them I would teach them some respect.
For right now West Virginia is atv friendly but do not know how long it will last.
There should be a public designated area for recreational riding in Pennsylvania, put it near Wilkes Barre in the Poconos. Then tourism boost would be greatly appreciated for their economy.....everyone is happy.

I speak for myself when I say- When I go out to the woods, I like peace and quiet. No radios, no yelling and screaming and no 2 or 4 cycle engine noise. I can get that at home. There ain't nothing better than hiking out in the "wilderness" in the way it was intended and hearing the natural sounds of life- birds, streams, wind in the trees, chatter of animals ect..To me that's why I'm there. And to hear the loud noises of 4 wheelers ticks me off. Want noise and make it? Go to the city! Those that are too lazy to walk- stay home.
With all due respect-My opinion!
If this continues- there won't be any difference between being at home or being in the woods![:(]
Generally:
National Wildlife Refuge - NO (not even to retreive downed game) some do in fact have approved trails but you better know which ones and stay on the trail.
National Forest - Yes, must have permit, must stay on trail.
State WMA's - Yes, much looser, common sense is the rule, hooray!
Everything else is loose, except they'll ticket you to if you ride a stream, even on private lands on certain rivers/creeks!!
