Picked Up Dirty Gun

I picked up my Auction gun today (Ruger KP90DC). While I was waiting for the NICS check to go through I decided to check it out. It only takes me 15 seconds to field strip a P-series Ruger and when I did, it was filthy. The outside apperance was fine, just as described, but why would anybody sell a dirty gun. Wouldn't you clean a gun before selling it?

To a friend maybe, to a family member probably,
but on an auction or someone I didn't know definitely
    NOT.

Only reason I can imagine is that they did not know how to field strip it. If not, they should not have owned it. Then again they don't now.

If I knew then, what I know now.

I can't stand any dirty gun, heck, I'll even clean my wife's gun rather than have a dirty gun in the house.

Maybe they just don't take pride in it. I pride myself on the way I take care of my guns, and when I sell one, the person who gets it will recieve a clean, lubed, and ready to load and shoot gun.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Thanks to the USMC and my father before, I clean all guns after use, and keep them clean. It's a disipline thing I guess. Some have it, some don't. I would be ashamed for someone to see me with a dirty gun in my safe. I would not sell one in that condition, or let some handle one until it was clean. Just me I think.

Some people take care of their belongings, whether from personal pride, training or habit. Others do not. I've purchased them both ways from private parties. The dirty ones didn't stay that way very long.

Shootist3006: that was a feeble attempt at a joke.
If mine are not clean after I return from shooting the same
day, they are cleaned the next day.

Seems to me alot of gun traders think outward appearence means more.To me it tells me alot but I will inspect the pistol anyway.

I think the appearance of the gun probably reflects the previous owners personal hygene.

The two used guns I bought from my favorite gun store, that are now my favorite guns, were clean as a whistle. That's another reason to like the store.

Isn't the P90 a .45? Are we about to witness the birth of RugerFortyFiver?

You know - there were so many times I put Dad's 12ga away dirty after dove hunting, and he never said a thing. Every time I asked to use it he would, but it was clean as a whistle. I guess I clean mine spotless in his memory. You are right, I have never purchased a used rifle/shotgun/pistol that was as clean as my Daddy kept his. I just enjoy an afternoon of cleaning my wifes, mine, and my kid's rifles/pistols after a day of shooting....

    Hello.

    My name is Norman Dog.

I have sold a dirty gun.

Saxon Pig is being nice by not mentioning my name. He got a rifle from me in a trade that was filthy. I thought that I had been keeping it clean, but he said that the bolt was gummed up and that it was just dirty. I have since improved my technique, purchased new tools and new solvent, and attend DGA (Dirt Guns Anonymous) meetings.

    Thank you.

When you are buying its "dirt and rust". When you are selling its
    "collectors petina".

Sometimes I beware more of the sparkling clean stuff than the dirty ones ....

The dirty ones you can clean but the lemons become sour and stay that way....

I would never buy a dirty gun. Yesterday, I was out pricing a USP .40 and went to the local range. They are usually fairly pricey, but I like the people there and they usually work with you on any problems you may have. I was looking at a new pistol, and the dealer said, " Here's a good bargain right here " and pulls out an obviously used version of the same USP. The slide was all scratched up, and you could tell the gun had probably never been cleaned. I pulled the slide back and let it go forward, and the hammer almost fell off. I set it down and walked out. I can't believe anyone would try to sell something like that. Some people just don't take pride in their weapons, whether it is through lack of knowledge or just laziness. Personally, I want EVERYTHING to be in tip-top shape...especially since I know my life could depend on something as small as whether or not it has been cleaned recently. Clean it right, clean it everytime.

Every gun sold in my shop is tip toppy and never sloppy. Some folks will never get it.

being as I am obviously female..I knew a lot about loading and firing, but not as much about cleaning..snarlgard fixed that..now we fight over who cleans the guns after we spend the day at the range. When we bought our ar-15 last month he made me sit down and tear it down and put it back together 4 times so I would know how to do it..but then you guys know how easily they break down, don't you? It is so sweet I want more of them...he should really send the picture of me with it..wearing my .38 and .45..I was really locked and loaded that day..and yes, I can field strip the .45! I am proud of that, because the first time I watched him do it..I was sooooo confused as to what went where...not anymore
    enough ...I am rambling..sorry
