My neighbor has been complaining about ground hogs eating his garden up.Stepped outside the back patio,and looked over at my neighbors.To my surprise there were two ground hogs at the Edge of his garden.I was carring a Beretta 9000s 9MM,I dont know why I didnt try it, but I slipped back through the patio door and grabbed my Ruger GP100 with a 6 in barrel.I didnt have time to grap a rifle.When I got back out there I just seen one of them.I walked over to the edge of the fence and it stood up.So I raised the gun and shot off handed at the rodent,he flipped in the air at least twice.I stepped it off the best I could and it was at least a 50yrd shot give or take.I think I will go buy a lottery ticket.

    Have you noticed more "For Sale" signs around your house lately?

    rugster, it's obvious why you didn't try the Beretta but went to get a Ruger instead! That's pretty good shooting BTW.

    I'm with Rembrandt, a Smith would have have him checking powerlines for clearance. Good shooting! I hope this wasn't your one shot of a lifetime though. Hate to think you wasted it on a groundhog.

    Rembrandt;

    Smith makes Cough Drops and Wesson makes Cooking Oil.
    I guess it would be the cooking oil that would make him slip and flip three times.

    Rugster, nice shot. Reminds me of a wharf-sized rat I shot at off my front deck. The shot was maybe only 10-12 yards. When the round discharged, (.45 FMJ ) it flipped this rat about 5 feet in the air. The rat was dead before it hit the ground. I went to inspect the rat for damage and was amazed to find that not a hair of his was out of place. Seems my shot hit just in front of him but the force created by the impact was enough to drop him cold. Cool, I will never forget the incident or the K.O. power of the .45ACP.
