California bashing

I just came on board here last week and I love the site and am having a fine time but I don't understand the down right distaste...bordering on hate, that some posts seem to have for California. If it is a matter of our gun laws, well I can name four or five states with laws as bad or worse than those we have here. I don't read anyones posts from Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Hawaii getting folks so worked up. My god, posts from New York City seem to rate sympathy! California has sent a bad group of "politicos" to D.C., but other states have folks as bad or worse. What is the real story behind this? I have another home in Utah...will that exempt me from some of the punishment?

Mark: To answer your question, the reason is that so few people from Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York or Hawaii know how to read, and those that do read have a problem with their lips getting tired.

Its nothing against you we love people in USSC who support the second ammendment. California is just the flagship for all the commies who want to take our guns. My dad lives there and I understand where you are coming from, but our hostility isn't aimed at you its aimed at your neighbor

Hi Mark!Yes it is a cool site, been here only a few weeks myself.Wish I can get some of these CA bashers to move out here and vote some of these socailist out of office. Why retreat to a safe(for the time being)haven stay at the front and defeat them at the beachs. If you live in CA,please take family and friends to the polls, and tell 'em what to vote for.CW

Mark....the problem is that somebody supposedly "voted" the folks in that have successfully "occupied" that place you're living. I can't understand how that happened.....unless, of course, that's the mentality of the "voters" who are being thus governed! Given such a possibility, and not able to find any other plausable cause, what do those in that state expect others to believe?

We folks that are away from there, (far away), don't see how we could help those that obviously haven't been helping themselves. Outsiders can't vote....that State's voters can.....but do they? Must not care or they are very misguided in their views.....but when they become miserable enough they will do something.

Any invite from the folks living there to come join them seems an exercise in futility to me, and an excuse to abuse one's self if you did go there! How could "Non-Voters" help?

You said you had another home in Utah.....evacuate your family and yourself! I would do it quick too, before the barbed wire went up!

greetings, my # one son lives in the bay area, he and his family love it there. aside from some dagonian laws and a few odd folks they think it's close to utopia. i just came back from there a week ago and the people i associated with seem to be quite human atleast durring the day. i believe most conservative leaning people distrust californians and new york city area people cause they seem to be trend setters in liberal policies, like social programs and gun control. respt submitted dads-freehold

    Mark -
I lived there for most of 22 years, and nobody here holds it against me. I feel sorry for anyone living under such restrictive gun laws, but I don't hate the folks. I just think the politicians have a certain looniness when it comes to their willingness to abridge the rights of their people in the name of liberty, California-style.

When I was there I bought my M1 Carbine, which I still own and enjoy. Since I moved back here, I've bought & sold an Uzi, an AR15 H-Bar, a SPAS-12, and still have an AK-47 type 56 which I would have to sell before I could move back there. It's a shame that people get disarmed at the door when they go to live there. And of course, I have had my Indiana CCW for years, and not carrying would feel strange there too. I would apply for a permit of course, and doubtless be rejected, from what I hear.

But you're not any less welcome here than anyone else, not at all. Don't confuse our amazement at state politicians and their gun laws flaunting the Second Amendment for distaste for you and yours.

Mark, I am probably one of those whose barbed comments make you feel uncomfortable. Let me make myself clear: (1) much of the state is physically beautiful; (2) some of the people who live there are good folks - including the pro-freedom residents who find their way into this august assemlage and some of my friends and family; (3) the laws suck; (4) most of the politicians suck; (5) the overall Political Correctness of the state more than sucks.

At least the last four statements can also be made about IL, NY, NJ, MD, HI and my own special albatross, the People's Republic of Kennedy - which would still be too close to home if were in on the other side of the earth rather than 90 miles down the road. I really don't dislike California (see, for you, I even spelled it the way it appears on the maps! ), however I detest, loathe & hate the crawling liberal cockroach dung that infests & controls the state.

Using the term "Kalifornia" is simply a shorthand reference to the 70% or so of the putatively sentient occupants who ruin it - and the rest of the country. When I say I'd like to see it swallowed up by the San Andreas Fault or a similar event, I really don't mean the state, but the mushbrain liberals. So if the shoe doesn't fit, please pass it along to Gray Davis, and I can provide several suggestions on where it would fit him, 'K?

Ranchpaulo retreat and the front moves closer. If you retreat so far the barbedwire will appear on your borders too!By the way so few people vote here if you could get like minded people to vote it could start to make a difference.CW

Thanks guys, I can see that I really am among friends here. I now know that most of the bashing is done in good fun and it was nice to see California spelled with a "C" in a post other than my own. I'm no fan of the firearms laws here either, but I'm a gun dealer and it is not so bad that I can't earn a living, although I've seen many other dealers go belly up. Life is indeed much differnt for me in Southern Utah, where I have my other home and the TOYS which Sacramento thinks are too dangerous to have around here. I found this site by total accident last week and now I'm hooked for life!

I have lived in California all my life, and I believe that the voting got out of hand after the large influx of illegal immigration happenned. A large block of voters have been recruted by the Latino organizations and vote liberal democratic.

Sorry if the spelling of my name bothers you, but I live in CA too and it's a tongue in check complaint against our socialist government. I like the state, the land, the cultural diversity, the pay and many of the people. I am pretty upset how much power liberals have but if you look at my posts, I'm usually one of the first guys to defend CA and CA gun owners on the boards.

Welcome to the forum and glad to meet another pro-gun resident of this state.

So many guns, so little money . . .

When the President announces on Thursday we are going on a long land based battle with Iraq the world may take advantage of America's weakness. Maybe North Korea will launch a Da-Dong missile at Kalifornia and start a land attack. I wouldn't lose any sleep. A good * kicking is what America needs to get our rights back.

Mark, it's nice to see another friendly poster on this board. I enjoy this site for the most part and I am almost used to the anti-California sentiment. After all, it's not much different than what we see in the outside world. Many people who have never been to our state tend to believe the hype and the stereotypes and think that they know all about it. I knew a guy who transferred from Texas to Taft, California - sight unseen - because he would get to live on a beach that was populated by masses of bikini-clad blondes. If you have never been to Taft, just think of an Oklahoma oil town circa 1930.

Yeah, we have a lot of stupid laws and politicians who regularly push the limit of sanity, but we are not alone. For example, in Cincinatti, it is legal to own an M-16 (Ohio is a Class III state), but an AR-15 is banned because it is an "assault rifle". Moynihan probably gave lessons to Feinstein and Boxer. In fact, others should be glad that there is a California because our state tends to attract wacked-out liberals from the rest of the country.

Ranchero Paul - Why would I want to move to Utah? Where I live, I can have a beer with my steak at just about any restaurant on any day of the week. If I want a six-pack for personal use at home, the State doesn't tell me when and where I can buy it. Heck, I can even make my own! California may have a neo-socialist government, but it is not a theocracy that discriminates against minorities and women. My point is that politics can be dirty in many ways and our freedoms are in peril across the country. It has been this way since Day One, 4 July 1776. Let's stick together on these issues instead of bashing one another because we live in another state. We are all in the USA, after all.

By the way, I don't blame anyone for choosing to live in another state. It's a free country (for now) and each person must be free to decide the course of his life. Moving away from security, family, and friends takes courage, but the crap that goes on in this state can make the decision real easy.

Mark, no one here hates California or its residents. Just the laws and politicians.

I, personally, dislike the liberal bias of the state and the level in which political correctness has damaged the more feeble-minded people of that state. Take the Berkley University...they are having a memorial ceremony on Wednesday, but they have banned

    The US Flag
    The Pledge of Alleigance
    The Star Spangled Banner

and anything else that might have anything to do with OUR country or religion. It just seems that the craziest laws and ideas come out of the left coast.

I'm sure the people are good...atleast the ones that can think for themselves.

Welcome aboard...and thank GOD we have atleast one more pro-gun vote in California.

    News Flash!

The 9th District Court has decided the way we track years is illegal because it is based upon the death of Jesus Christ. Starting next year we will start with the year 0001.

It's just a matter of time before someone in Kalifornia thinks of this because it offends their religion.

    It's a southern thing.
We're not saying that every single thing about California is wrong.
But go ahead and look at the facts sometime.
    California,
*the toughest place to purchase a firearm
*gun shows are not even gun shows anymore
    *the whole smoking idea
    *semi autos
    *drug trafficing
*Near highest crime inner city per capita
*liberal bedweters within a stone throw
    *fricos Happy go GAY population
    *Droughts/Fires every year
    *earthquakes
    *hunting laws (hard core)

Normally I don't bother with this kind of argument, but what the hell...

*the toughest place to purchase a firearm
-Doubtful, as some other states have the same laws.

*gun shows are not even gun shows anymore
-Cose Mesa's gun show is now nearly as large as the huge Pomona show used to be, and the Anahiem show ain't bad either.

    *the whole smoking idea
-Sucks. I don't have much to argue there.

    *semi autos
-What about them??? As long as they don't have pistol grips...it's bull, but CA's not alone in that crazy law.

    *drug trafficing
Besides your typo, I'd argue that Texas (oh, god NO!) and Florida are right up there, and let's not overlook what comes in from Canada through WA and ID!

*Near highest crime inner city per capita
Near? Not nearly as bad as Baltimore, Wachington D.C., New York, Detroit or Chicago.

*liberal bedweters within a stone throw
Riiiiiight. I fear for your mental health if you ever went to Colorado, Oregon, Washington of New Mexico!!!

    *fricos Happy go GAY population
I think you meant "Frisco's", but that's ok I don't actually have anything against gays. Most gays I've known try harder than anyone to bring good deeds to the world, probably because they've had to deal with more small-minded hatred in their lives than most gun owners. (don't confuse 'gay' with 'liberal', they are not the same)

    *Droughts/Fires every year
True, but the droughts are more political than real. I've been through several, and you just don't water the grass as much. As for fires, yeah, we got 'em but not as bad as CO or AZ seem to.

    *earthquakes
I'd MUCH rather deal with a littleground movement than a Hurricane's tidal surge or 200mph winds. And, speaking of wind, I'd be a bit scared to live in Tornado Alley too. Measurable quakes only happen every 10 years or so, the bad ones only every 30. Tornados and hurricanes are ANNUAL events for most of the southern and eastern states and impact a much larger area than even a 8.0 quake!

    *hunting laws (hard core)
I don't know, I've only hunted in Canada. I would guess that there are significantly fewer places to hunt in CA than most mid-western states because we have a high population, and because the population and industry is spread out over a large part of the state. What isn't housing or computer companies is usually farmland or a state park.

    *The underground Comi's
What crack are you smoking? There are DEFINATELY no underground comis here! They are all above-surface and proud of it. Stupid people, but at least they are easy to spot

*Thats where Jeff Gordon is from
And it's where we have Ontario Speedway, Laguna Seca, Sear's Point Raceway, The Oakland Roadster Show, Hot Rods by Boyd, Moonies, BDS Blowers, CA's the birthplace of both custom cars (one of only two art forms indiginous to the US) and top speed racing, miles of great off-roading (if you like desert) and more hot rods than anywhere else in the world! Did I forget to mention that CA's where nearly ALL of the world's car companies have design studios?!
