Beretta 1+2 Warranty

What do y'all think of Beretta's 1+2 Warranty? If you send in the Owner's Warranty/Registration Card with a copy of your sales receipt, they will extend the manufacturers warranty from 1 year to 3 years. It just seems like they ought to have a 3 year warranty period from the start and not bother with collecting information on their customers.
