VEPR K

I had an SAR-1, but I hated the thing. The stock didn't feel right and I didn't find it as enjoyable to shoot as I thought I would. I sold it before I even emptied a 30 round mag from it. Selling it didn't feel right, either, just because I wanted an AK-type rifle in my collection. I kept looking at AK's here on GunBroker, and almost bought another SAR-1 a couple times and enjoyability be damned. I know, it's not very logical. Then I came across the VEPR-K in a post over on Ask The Experts.

From just shouldering the VEPR K, I can tell I like it better. I can't wait to shoot it!

The one thing that I found curious about it is that they included a cleaning rod and one of those AK buttstock cleaning kits and an oil bottle -- and there isn't any provision in the buttstock for the cleaning kit nor any under the barrel for the cleaning rod. It doesn't matter -- I would not use them anyway. I wish they would have included a nylon or canvas sling with swivels instead.

Range report on Sunday!

I ALWAYSLIKED THAT VEPR . DON'T LIKE THE PRICE ALTHOUGH ITS NOT TOO MUCH,JUST A LITTLE HIGH . I DID GET A RUSSIAN ISHMASH . I'LL SHOOT IT AS SOON AS A LENGTHEN THE STOCK . DOES THE VEPR FEEL SHORT LIKE THE SAR1 AND ISHMASH GUNS DO? WRENCH .

No, it doesn't feel short. That is what I hated most about that SAR-1. No offense intended by the statement that follows, but the VEPR feels like it was made for North American males to shoot, not southeast asians. It shoulders very well and feels natural. The price is high compared to SAR-1's (not sure about the Ishmash guns you mention) - mine is the muzzlebrake model and it was $589. But the receiver is milled and you don't have to replace the stock to make it fit you!

I also looked at the Arsenel USA guns (Alley Cat often sells them here at GB). They are similiar and offer stocks for US men, but I found that the VEPR seemed to be better quality and less expensive.

Here is the scoop, straight from Robinson Arms. You can check 'em out at: http://www.robarm.com

They also have a page that compares their receiver to a Romanian and a Hungarian at http://www.robarm.com/RA_vepr_akrpkcomp.htm

    Hope this helps,

    WHY BUY A VEPR II?

The Following are reasons to choose the VEPR over any other Kalashnikov based rifle:

    1. Highest Quality of Manufacture. Compare side by side with other AKs. The others cannot compare. Made from 100% newly manufactured parts.

    2. Most Accurate. Consistently better groups than other AKs.

    3. True RPK Receiver. Stiffer and longer wearing than any other AK receiver. Made for Soviet Squad Automatic Weapon.

    4. Hammer-Forged, Chrome-Lined, Heavy Barrel. Most durable AK Barrels Made.

    5. Ergonomic Stock and Pistol Grip. Permits much more controllability and comfort than standard AK Furniture. Compare side by side with standard AKs. You'll notice that the stock is the proper length and the grip has the proper contour. Even better, the handguard doesn't get hot as fast!!! This was buy design. Our customers have said that the VEPR feels more like an HK than an AK!!!

    6. Two-Stage Trigger. Allows much better trigger control and accuracy.
