Researchers: Bush, Winston Churchill and Princess Diana are distant relatives
London-AP -- President Bush's family tree has some long roots.
Researchers have found that Bush, Princess Diana and Winston Churchill are distant relatives, whose ancestry can be traced back to a 15th century English squire named Henry Spencer.
Researchers for the U-S-based company My-Family-dot-com made the discovery.
They say one of Spencer's sons founded the line that would produce Churchill and Diana, whose maiden name was Spencer. Churchill's middle names were Leonard Spencer.
The descendants of another Spencer son settled in the New World. Bush's great-great grandfather James Bush married one of those descendants.
Bush is an admirer of Churchill and keeps a bronze bust of the British leader in the Oval Office. Bush once joked that he hoped to develop a personal relationship with Churchill.
