In a portion of the letter addressed directly to President Bush, letter writer Daleel Almojahid (an alleged al Qaeda operative) wrote in part, "Are you really still wondering if we have weapons of mass destruction? Why are you lying to your people, Bush? Tell them what you know, we bet you to tell them what you and the administration know. Tell them ... 'we have been losing all the wars with al Qaeda since they ever started.' Tell them that al Qaeda is simply unbeatable! Tell them that they have won the war before it has even started! You are leading your nations into total destruction, and time is slipping away from under our hands."
This is a crank letter, if it even exists beyond the realm of just one more Internet urban legend. Yeah, and Saddam fought the "mother of all battles" and won the war in '93, haven't you heard? Denial is not just a river in Egypt.... Old Saddam celebrated the anniversary of his victory recently in a hole in the ground. This straggling bunch of people have just enough intellect to pingentleman us, but seem incapable of encompassing the massive size, economy, and power of the giant they are biting like a mosquito. Even the twin towers, the success of which was somewhat of a fluke, only managed to cancel a few football games, delay the opening of the stock market briefly, and create a space for new architecture. (No disrespect to the dead and wounded implied.) Relatively speaking, they are merely a nuisance. A half dozen suitcase nukes would be vicious, but it would not strike a significant blow to that massive entity called the United States of America. We would clean up the mess, pursue the guilty, exact justice, memorialize our dead heroes, and move on.
Al Qaeda and other such dead-enders boil down to a group death wish. And we will be happy to oblige them whenever they stick their heads up like some of Sergeant York's turkeys.

But, if they came up with a half dozen suitcase nuke strikes, it would be the end of our republic. Not because of the damage caused, but because of the American reaction. The New Super Duper Patriot Act would suspend civil liberties, impose martial law etc.
Back when The Judge was still around and posting here, "information" and links full of dire predictions provided by him never had much in common with reality.
Nice to see that some things don't change.
