M-4

I have a friend who works for a "company" who's name I can't divulge,
who is soon to be going to a place, the name of which cannot be divulged. He just got back from a training course in which he had to become familiar with a number of weapons. One of these weapons was the AK-47....no big deal. Another was the M-4. He absolutley raved about this weapon. What impressed me, however, was a target he brought back.
He said he shot the M-4 on the 300 meter range and he put 6 of 8 rounds in a spot the size of a quarter. WITH OPEN SIGHTS!!!
I've shot with him before and he's a pretty good marksman. BUT HE AIN'T THAT GOOD. He swears that the M-4 is the most accurate rifle, of it's type, he's ever fired. I actually believe he shot this group.
Is the M-4 THAT accurate?
If so, why?
I looked at the auction site and everything I saw looked like another
AR-15 to me.
Can someone out there enlighten me about this rifle.
I've got an M-16 and it's damn accurate but it's not gonna' shoot a group like that on my best day. (And I ain't no slouch on the range.)

4-position collapsible stock, heavy step-barrel, double-sided heat shields in forearm. That's about it.

i'm not calling you a liar, BUT
i have to raise the BS flag on this one.
6 shots in a group that is 0.954" ? thats how big a quarter is. just under 1" i dont buy it. ESPECIALLY with iron sights on the M4 the shorter barrel certainly does not lend itself to greater accuracy, and he was probably using lake city military ammo. at 300 meters? BS

go ask a benchrest shooter to do that. 6 shots at 325yards(300 meters=325 yards)in a group of 0.954" i bet he CANT do it with his high dollar optics.

The M4 is far less accurate than even an out-of-the box HBAR. It's intended use is the same as the CAR/XM177 it replaces. Maggie is certainly right to raise the BS flag here; maybe your friend's company is Microsoft?

One of the biggest complaints from the troops in IRAQ was that the M4 was unable to adequately engage targets beyond 200 meters. At that range or less, particularly in street engagments it was worth its weight in gold. For more open desert engagements they prefered the standard M16 config with 20" barrel. I believe the document containing this information was posted on this site some time ago.
I have an AR in M4 config and its reasonably accurate at 100 - 150 meters but there is no way in heck that I could get a group like that with iron sights and I shoot a rifle pretty well. Cant hit squat with a handgun.

    Just my .02

OK....I didn't actually SEE him shoot this target. I thought it sounded too good to be true. (BUT....how do I know I can believe youse guys either? Maybe you're all having me on.[:D]) He also said that the one he fired had a "short" barrel. Well, I'm gonna take him to the range before he goes to the land far away. I'll give him my M-16 and let him try the same target at 100 yards. If he can't do it, I'll have to hurt him just for embarassing me in front of my friends.
    We'll just see who's FOS.

People who work with and or for one of the alphabit companies can not be trusted to tell the truth. My 2 cents [8D]

Do you mean they make an inflatable M4?
