What exactly is a fifth in terms of alcahol measure? I just can understand what it is.

A fifth is 750 milli liters or .75 liters

fifth ...unit of measure of liquor equal to one fifth of a gallon
gill .....unit of liquid volume equal to 4 fluid ounces

UK gallon = 20 oz/pint x 8 = 160 oz/gallon
US gallon = 16/0z/pint x 8 = 128 oz/gallon

one fifth one US gallon = 25.6 oz.

Still can't find the history of it.
And yes, the fifth is a hair over 750 ml (757ml, I believe).

I thought a lot of the gunbroker arguments were petty. I'd hate to meet the folks that would argue over a fifth of liquor....wait....that might be something to argue about if the winner gets a fifth [:D]

A fifth is 1/5 or 20% of a gallon. A 750 ml is metric measure that replaced the 5th, and is still commonly referred to as a fifth.
