Cabela's might build near Erie, PA

Today's Erie papers says that Cabela's maybe eyeing land in nearby Ripley, New York (about 20 miles just across the border). Neither the company nor officials in Ripley would confirm or deny Cabela's interest in Ripley. But a Cabela's spokesmans said Friday the company is looking for a suitable site for a new store in New York State.

Erie seems a little close to their other locations, Dundee, Michigan; Wheeling W.Virginia; and Hamburg will be opening this fall. I'm sure they've done the research, probably found out there is lots of money to be spent in PA. [:)]


Pennsylvania is a logical choice considering all the deer hunters in that state. Here's a link to the Hamburg store...

Hamburg is in the eastern part of the state about 350 miles from Erie. Ripley could be a good location as it close to Erie and about halfway between Cleveland and Buffalo. Also alot of hunters and fishermen in northwest PA and southwest NY.

If they want to profit from selling guns at that store they wouldn't build it in NY.

Also, think it might be better to build it on the PA side as there is no sales tax in PA on clothing like there is in New York.

Also when my wife found out that Cabelas was opening a store in Penn she got nervous. I think I could get away with going to a nudey bar instead of Cabelas!

To me,Cabela's is similar to L L Beans here in Maine.You pay for the name.Half the stuff they sell is made in China.The yuppies love it,and they can have it.
