MIAMI (AP) - Where there's smoke there's -- pot. At least that's what authorities in Miami are charging.

A Miami-Dade police spokesman says Roy Diaz reported a fire in his house. Firefighters
quickly put out the flames, but in the process police say more than 50 mature pot plants were found.

According to authorities, Diaz had a sophisticated hydroponic pot growing operation in the home he shares with his wife and child.

Police say the pot they seized is worth about $400,000.

Diaz was treated for smoke inhalation, then arrested on marijuana dealing and other charges.

He'll get 10-15 years, and a child molester will get parolled after 1 year to make room for him.

I'd sure like to know how they get their numbers. That breaks down to $8,000. per plant. They must be weighing equipment and all.

Some 'mature plants' can grow up to 10'+. If they are full of
high quality bud (top quality resin) I'd imagine they could
sell for a LOT MORE THAN THAT![:D]

"Diaz was treated for smoke inhalation...."

I wonder how many times he ran back into the fire.

Diaz was treated for smoke inhalation, then arrested on marijuana dealing Actually, he did not inhale wacky tabacky smoke. The pot was in a two-car garage, which did not catch fire. He was also charged with grand theft for rigging his electrical meter to steal electricity, in addition to some child endangering charges.

Here in the Miami area, a grow house is busted about once a month.
Most growers rent the properties and locate them in family neighborhoods to avoid detection. They steal power, since the utilities notify the cops of houses with huge increases in power.

LOL ... kinda looks like it, huh? I dunno, I was just Googling
grass to see what the yield was nowadays and found that! I just
    couldn't resist posting it.

We have a ranch up in the local mountains and every year the
'bears in the sir' find a patch or two growing in the chapparelle
on the sides of the mountains. A couple of years ago I watched
them hack and haul it out - and I asked all the right questions -
but I've forgotten all of the details, now. Our grass is pretty low
quality compared to Hawaiian or stuff from N. Calif./Ore. As I
recall, they said that wild cultivated was about 10K-12K a plant,
when mature. Indoor cultivated was much more!

Kids hike in and cultivate small patches every Spring and the bears
appear in choppers every May/June. It's like clockwork. [:D]

I saw a show on 60 minutes about a marijuana activist up in British Columbia. In this province, while pot is not legal, they hardly enforce the laws, making it, for all practical purposes, legal.
This guy has made $15 million selling seeds, mostly on the internet. He said that most of his sales are to the US.
So, there are web sites where you can order seeds and they [US Post Office?] will deliver them to your door.
How can they do this and not get nailed by DEA?

I think he was suffering from smoke inhalation for a long time before the fire happened.....[:D]
