In at least one Louisiana parish, the starting pay for correctional officers is around $2500 per month.

Better be big and strong. I've known a number of state corrections officers and most have been assaulted by incarcerated minorities, some seriously. They earn their pay and get the same pensions as police & firemen.

Missouri about $2100.00 a month at the bottom end. decent medical and retirement also a deffered compensation plan you can pay into and they match up to about $25.00 a month. Lots of turnover always hiring.

County Adult Detention here starts at $32K + for entry level.

Experienced personnel start at a higher rate.

Medical, dental, educational, 20 year retirement etc..

A friend of mine works in Calif. prison system . he is a supervisor with about 10 years experience and makes about $75k per year with overtime, gets excellent benefits, a pension plan etc. he's worked Folsom and San Quentin but not Pelican Bay. I'm not sure Pelican Bay is any worse than the other max security prisons, it might even be safer because there is less physical interaction with the prisoners.

I have a friend in California that is a Prison Guard ( Correctional Officer ). He says that their wage and benefit package is second only to the CA HWY Patrol in his state.
Of course the state is broke..................................
