I don't know about the rest of you but I read his dribble in G&A almost every month (my sub runs out in 2013) but lately I think he's just about lost whats left of his mind, Lately he's been contridicting himself on earlier articles. Also he just rambles about anything including doing laundry. He's shot in my opinion and as a matter of fact I think some of the members could post some better ramblings, lets nominate one. My vote would be Pabooger, at least theres some substance from his articles[;)].

Heard a few folks who didn't like him because they thought the firearm industry had passed him by. I thought he had forgotten more than most of his critics knew.

    God rest his soul.

    Heff,
He was a relic...and salty marine.
They passed him by because he was more educated than the publisher.
I did not always agree with the old dude...but he was as we say in Texas a "Top hand".

Strong opinions, but a lot of knowledge there. There didn't seem to be much middle ground as to the opinion people held of him.

I will miss his wit and wisdom, only wish I'd gotten his book earlier and sent it to be autographed.
Whether you agreed or disagreed with his perspective, it was always food for thought.
    RIP Colonel.

Sorry to hear that [V][V]. Whether you liked him or not, or agreed with him or not, he deserves respect for what he accomplished in his life and for what contributed to the shooting sports.
He wasn't always the rambling old fella he has been in his writings in recent years, and that day is coming for all of us.
Sure, he was arrogant in his younger days. But my Dad used to say "if you can do do it, it's not bragging", and Col. Cooper could always do it. Sometimes we confuse confidence for arrogance too, and he was always confident and intelligent.
I didn't always agree with him, but I for one will miss him.

Sorry to hear of his passing. Although in his later years he had gotten rather odd in his ramblings. In his prime he was the first thing I turned to in the magazine. He was a giant who shrank with age. Now all of the old masters are gone. Cooper, Skelton, Jordan, Kieth. Who will take their place? Bart is a shallow mockery of Skeeter. Where are we going to get the people with the breadth of experience these guys had?

If he left a legacy, it was for the .45. He didn't need any other.

I remember him writing that he was rather enamoured of the term that a lefty used as an insult towards him: "Bon vivant and recreational killer", and that he wanted that for his epitaph. One could do worse.

Another bit of his that stuck with me was when he eulogized Enzo Ferrari. He mentioned that Ferrari was entitled to be called Doctor, Commadore, and more I can't remember, but that Ferrari had achieved that true status attested to by a name that was greater than any title. I submit that Col. Cooper stands that test.

I think I'll go re-read the first book that I ever read until it fell apart in my hands: "Cooper On Handguns".

He used to post on here? Anybody know his username so I can find his posts?

I grew up reading his columns. He was a wealth of information, opinion, and actual writing talent, which is rare today. He may be gone, but his legacy and writings live on.

Do not go gently into that good night, colonel. do not go gently into that good night.

    Yes, that was him PATBUZZARD.
There is another thread started on him by nononsense in General Discussion titled "Jeff Cooper passes" with alot of good history on things he did. -- Worth reading.
