Heard on the news today thew US mint is going start minting newly designed pennies, nickles and dimes next year.
They have not said what the new design will be, but gone will be Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt.
I bet we get some politically correct faces on the new ones.

I would like to see, Billy Clinton, Jane Fonda, and Al Sharpton or maybe Malcom X on the new ones myself.

U.S. Mint May Give Money a Makeover Mon Sep 9, 8:33 AM ET By JEANNINE AVERSA, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - The maker of the nation's coins is looking for some change. The U.S. Mint, responding to some gripes among experts and collectors that current coin designs are stagnant and boring, is exploring making over all U.S. coins, except for the quarter. The idea of new coin designs, while still in its infancy, was discussed in a report by a Mint task force in late August. The task force cited "one fundamental objective" in proposing a redesign of the coins: "The Mint must endeavor at the beginning of the
21st century to provide Americans and the world circulating coinage with designs and themes that appropriately reflect the pride of today's America." The report suggested that a new nickel be introduced in 2003, followed by a new dime in 2004, half-dollar in 2005 and penny in
2006. At this point, Mint officials are considering changes to the people and pictures on the coins, rather than changes in their size, shape or what they are made of. Potential themes for redesigned coins are things American, among them: freedoms, innovation, vistas, arts and culture, classic coins, the West, presidents, heroes and heroines, women, endangered species, animals and Nobel Prize winners.

What a lot of nonsense, a fine waste of taxpayer dollars. Contact the Mint at http://www.usmint.gov/email/ and tell them it is a STUPID idea.

Penny? Why bother. I'm not so sure that I could support the nickel to remain in circulation.

I've also read that they plan to replace the new bills they just started makeing with colored ones.
What they need to do if they make new currency is to take one zero off
(like Mexico did when they took 3 zeros off).
One new Dollar would be worth ten old ones. Coins would once again have value & I wouldn't have to write such long numbers on my checks.

There is a fantastic waste of money, our money, time, time better spent on smart people figuring out how to make our money go further instead of our money going down the toilet and looking better doing it. Funny, a few people complained about our money not looking nice enough, and it gets fixed. People complain about not having the health benefits, insurance, and medication they need, and nothing beneficial enough is done to notice. Any of you ever think to yourself, or hear anyone else say, 'gee, I wish this money I spend had a snappier appearance, it would look so much better that way'. Yeah, I thought not. Our country is run by a bunch of idiots, what moron can I write about this latest waste of money? I'm happy to live in America, but this sure doesnt make me proud to be living here.

Ever wonder just how much these guys are getting paid to think up new pretty money designs? Hey, don't worry about the SS deficit!
