Picking up auction gun from local seller

I understand that to have a gun shipped to me I need to use a FFL. What if I win an auction from a gun shop that is local to me? Can I just go there and pick it up myself without any FFL involved?

    Nope.

    If you purchase a firearm from a dealer, you will have to fill out the form (4473).

    Well most likely, but ask them first. Any middleman FFL that is. You still have to have the gun shops FFL do a form 4473 and a NICS check.

    I would imagine if it's a Gun Shop that the seller is probably an FFL, there fore you'd have to fill out the Government paperwork.

    If your dealer sold you a gun, he better be an FFL. And you will have to fill out the paperwork. He will probably not charge you extra for the paperwork if is halfway nice. [:)] But you will have to pay sales tax if your state charges that tax.

    Do what I do and keep an eye peeled for individuals selling their guns within driving distance and avoid shipping,taxes,and stupid forms and checks. You also get to meet other "gun" people face to face.

    I have talked to LF about this since she is only 20 minutes from me .
    I would have to do the paper work + pay sales tax .
    But I would get the gun quicker !!

    Better ask the selling FFL first. I won a gun here on gunbroker from "mmabry" a local dealer who wouldn't allow pick up since he didn't have a store. So I had to have it transferred to a storefront dealer. Ugh...

    If the seller is an FFL then fill out the paperwork. If the seller is not an FFL give him the money and run.

    I wish it were me that he told that to.

    An 01 FFL must have [some type] of customer access, either by appointment, or by any hours-of-operation he so chooses. And the information vis-a-vis business hours must be included with his submitted paperwork to ATF.

    Have the rules changed? Can [someone-anyone] apply for an 01 FFL without indication of customer access (read: mail-order only?) Thanks, Joe

    There is a pawn shop here that buys guns, but won't sell guns in store, and somehow that is legal...[:(!]

    ...Yes, as long as the seller/gunshop allows F to F pick up.

    I assume the gunshop will have an FFL, and as long as they offer local pickup, you can pick up the gun you won from them, no shipping involved.

    Ive done a face to face pick up on one of the guns I won off the auction side myself.

    BEFORE bidding, ask if you can do a local pick up on the gun if thats what you want to try and do.
    You will still need to fill out the ATF 4473 form, rather the gun is shipped or picked up in person...[;)]

    It depends upon what state you are in. In Colorado, I can buy a rifle or pistol from a private party without a FFL involved.

    If you are in a state which allows private party sales and as long as the seller is willing to meet with you face to face then it is fine. Plenty of private individuals want nothing at all to do with meeting some stranger from the Internet and will only ship to an FFL. There are also lots of dealers who use Gun Broker specifically so that they can avoid face to face transfers. I am a dealer and if you buy a gun from me the two of us will never be meeting each other. I will be shipping the gun to your dealer or if the firearm is a Curio and relic I will ship directly to you if you hold a Type 03 FFL and it is legal in your location. Holding a Type 01 FFL in no way shape or form obligates the dealer to do retail sales or face to face transfers of any sort.

    If selling, make sure buyer has same state id, make sure not selling to a miner and good idea to have a bill of sale that buyer states he's legally allowed to possess a firearm.

    Yes, I have done what you are asking about quite a few times. Only problem is if there is a waiting period you have to drive there twice, but you do save on shipping. Don't forget to ask the seller if he allows personal pick up. Also, there is this nice little restaurant in Redding that my wife likes to visit so we make it a fun trip together. And sometimes I purchase other items at the store.

    You better check your states regs. On transfers. Some states require FFL transfer between private parties.
