CETME one downfall....

Man, I really like the CETME, I just wish one thing. I wish they had a foreward bolt assist... I'd honestly hate to have one of these things in a battlefield with adverse conditions.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Bolt Assist? HK don't need no stinking bolt assist...ever.

    LOL...

Yea, but that way u could retard the bolt forward and then use the forward assist to battery, cause it would make things alot easier to dry fire in the house at night without waking up my girl...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

A properly built and designed weapon does not need a Slammit Handle...

The ultimate retort to any boast on the AR's reliability in "adverse" (*scoff*) conditions.

I prefer one myself, but after all I've read on the CETME/H&K type rifles, those who seem fond/familiar with them say they don't jam, so there's no need for one. I suppose that applies to after a suitable break-in period, as I've heard of some jamming the first few rounds. Having one would make you feel better.

What I think is funny is the guys who say the M1A/M14/M1 Garand don't have the forward assist, like the AR15/M16. Of course, they say this while knocking the AR, and asking why a rifle would need one. What they don't seem to realize is the M1A/M14/Garand type rifles do have a forward assist. It's called the bolt charging handle. Just slap it forward with the palm of your hand.

I have a friend who served in Nam, said he had his M14 bolt rust shut while out after several days. Said one night, he beat that charging handle with a rock trying to free the action with no luck. The next day, he ran into action, squeezed the trigger once, it cleared itself, and functioned perfectly afterwards.

Just a bit of trivia. Someone else's war story.

boeboe: I've never had a HK 91 or 93 jam on me...ever. There are more accurate and balanced black rifles I suppose, but I'd put HK up against anything in the reliability department. As for the M14, yeah they rusted pretty quick even in I Corps. We'd steel wool the hell out of them. Never had a bolt rust shut, tho. FYI, the M14 doesn't have a charging handle. Operating rod handle maybe?

Yea, I love my M1A, a far superior action in my opinion. But its alot different than that of the AR and the CETME, the bolt assembly is more exposed, and the handle on the side continuously follows it as it operates, so one would not need an additional forward assist.

One thing I can't stand about my CIA knockoff, that I also love, is that the new american lower reciever's they made for them, they need to switch the safe adn fire positions back around. But for $300, its the best rifle I ever bought in that price range that wasn't a 22...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

    ASK and ye shall receive!

There is a guy on one of the HK boards that makes a forward assist for the HK type rifles ... just like the one on the PSG-1! He also makes the reinforcement rails, scope tabs and almost everything else needed to convert a HK-91 (or clone) to the PSG-1. Prices are very reasonable and several people have raved about his quality of work ... now the down side ... The last I heard the assembly was $315 and to make the serrations in your carrier another $50, the assist has to be welded on, so you'll need to refinish your reciever ... another $200 ... of course if your going to do that, you might as well do the reinforcement rails while your at it ... another $125 plus welding ...

I didn't say it would be cheap! ... His name is Dano (I don't believe the same as our beloved dano) email address is dhoodenpyl@aol.com here's a pic of his forward assist I boot legged off the HK board:

    Ooop's almost forgot-
Then you'll want a decent trigger so you can benifit from all your up-grades ... Williams Specility Triggers ... Contoured Set Trigger - $175 (basic trigger job to smooth and reduce pull weight $65)

The AR's had to have the forward assist put on because it's a crappy design. At least in the beginning. If the US government had used Stoner's design instead of screwing around with it, the AR series wouldn't need a forward assist.
And if that guy let his rifle rust shut, I'm surprised his buddies didn't lose him in the bush. You couldn't trust him. He doesn't take care of his equipment and he'd get you killed.
