Proxy Bids

This subject has probably been addressed before and I missed it. I was just outbid on an auction on GB and am curious as to why I was outbid by only $2.00 when the minimum bid increment was $5.00. I had a proxy bid of $198.00 and the winning bid was $200.00. I also had the bid at $178.00. Would someone please explain to me why the winning bidder did not have to outbid my proxy bid by the minimum $5.00 bid.

It will ignore the minimum bid when it gets that close to the other person's max bid.

He had a max bid of $200, you had a max bid of $198 (bad idea......should have been $200.01 or something!).

Always bid a few more pennies over the dollar. I've won a lot of auctions that way.

Mercury, if this is true then maybe Gunbroker should redo their site so it does pay attention to minimum bid increments. I am not griping about the fact that I got outbid, but about the fact that the apparent rules were not followed. What is the use of having a minimum bid increment if the site is not going to follow its own rules?
