Bennelli?

I want to buy a 12 ga pump, that shoots 3 1/2" shells. Is the Benelli Nova w/ a 28" barrel a good choice? Never shot one before, always have had an 870. Some input from Benelli owners would be great.

Very reliable, but has three faults (IMHO)--1) kicks like h*** with 3-1/2" shells, 2) has a thick pistol grip for someone with small hands, and 3) forend rattles.

Yes, the Benelli's are very reliable and typically pattern very well. I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle (semi-auto) that would honestly be the very last gun I'd get rid of. I like it so much I've even ordered a slug barrel for it.
I think the Nova's look a little futuristic, but the camo version helps break up the shape a bit if that bothers you. They are great guns and you'll be pleased.

Another cheaper option (if money's tight) for a 3.5" shotgun is that the used Mossberg 835 ulti-mags are going pretty cheap now...

As for what Laxcoach mentioned - the 3.5" IS going to kick, but it can be reduced by adding a mercury recoil dampener available from Benelli (http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/accessories2.tpl).

I haven't noticed the rattling of the forearm, but I've only used the Nova for maybe a couple hundred rounds skeet shooting. My SBE has no rattles to speak of.
Fanatic collector of the 10mm auto.
