I am gonna do a small pantry 40x40inches with leftover tiles from the kitchen. I am only going to have to make a few cuts as most will be hid with shelving, my question is, it is ceramic tile and all I have is regular cut off blades for my grinder. I will only have to make one or two cuts will they work or do I really need a diamond cut off blade?? also I assume I can cut the concrete board with the cut off blade also. I have half a dozen blades and just hate to buy a diamond blade if I don't need to.

thanks but I've never had good results with a glass cutter, I could usually break it straighter than cutting it....[;)]

Diamond blades aren't that expensive anymore, I just picked up some 7" segmented diamond blades from Hilti for around $15 each. I expect you can get some 4" tile blades for that or less.

Go to most any lumber yard/hardware store and you'll find a cheap diamond blade that'll fit your grinder and get the job done on both the tile and the concrete board. Be sure and wear a dust mask and safety glasses when cutting both the tile and backer board.

Today's t Ile are much harder to cut than that old ceramic stuff for a couple of easy cuts just Mark them, score them, take you grinder and the wheels you have outside and grind away

You can rent or buy a wet saw with a diamond blade. You can buy one from Sears for less than $100. I have one I have used for years.

You can use a cleavage type cutter, to cut tile but you run the risk of ruining tiles unless you are a pro. With a wet saw, you can cut notches and even square hole out of tiles.

You can use a wood saw or handsaw to cut hardyboard.

got them cut with the cutoff blades, not sure which ate up which, few corner chips but like I said its in a coat closet/pantry only had to cut 6 tiles, just couldn't see spending money on diamond blade I would never use again, this ceramic tile is tough though, sixfoot long 5 3/4 wide, looks like wood. In the bottom of a dark coat closet no one will know its not perfect.[^]

since the heart surgery, one thing I have noticed is I CAN'T work on my hands and knees anymore, 5 minutes and I am worn out. This may take most of the weekend....[V]

Rent a tile cutter board. You just scribe the tile then bump the handle to break it.Nippers are used for curved cuts.[;)]
