I just got out of an exam and now have proof that my hearing is shot.
Actually was not as bad as I expected.
The estimate was a bit of a shock, $4200 for a set that is a good shot gun.
How does this compare to some of your costs, I know that I need them but the cost was surprising.

Well, I'm starting to go to the hearing aid places to check them out for what helps me most and what God-awful price I will have to pay.
First, I'm going to an independent dealer who carries several different brands and styles.
Anybody have some suggestions or personal experiences to offer?

Have to ask have you tried anything any of us have said about reapplying to the VA. Unless you were discharged with a service connection. They will turn you down at least once.

What you need to do is either work with the DAV or a county service rep and reapply. Take in all the info you have on your service. List jobs and units you were at. Request a copy of your service records. Also request a copy of your medical records. If you spent any time in a Medical Hospital you will need to request copies of the records they have for you.

They do not just hand this stuff out they make you work for it.

As an Engineer, It always entertains me to consider all the warnings to preserve Your Hearing, Protect Your Hearing by wearing earmuffs, plugs, and then, when You get old, You get devices that SHOUT in Your Ears to help You hear!

I have tinnitus also. I did not wear my moms hearing aid but a few seconds and i did not her tinnitus for that short period of time.

However i would not say it helped with it at all because like i said it was just a few seconds.

I have my paperwork and i will send it in again.

Plus i want the card saying im a vet.

Again DAV or a county service rep. They know how to word it so your claim goes thru also when they are the ones to send it in the VA seems to look at it less and approve it. Don't use them and I will make a bet it is denied again.

I was wounded by an IED in VietNam. The explosion was to my left and I lost most of my hearing in that ear. I have gotten a couple of hearing aids and they were useless. I just have to live with it.
I would put the hearing aid in my ear, the plug up the hearing on my right ear. I could not hear any better in the ear than before the hearing aid. Next time I will not have them screen out any outside noises before I get the hearing aid. They say that should not make any difference. I believe it does.
Get the hearing aid and when they has about screening out excess noise, tell them "NO".
