next time we visit I am going to steer a conversation to the subject and let them make the case for it like they always do and once they do, they will spout how fossil fuels and fossil based engines, mostly cars do most of the damage. once they do I will tell them that I do not believe that they are personally convinced of it themselves, nor do they live by their convictions concerning global warming.

when they ask why I will simply say the it seems more than ironic and a little hypocritical that one of them manages a Papa Johns pizza and the other one works at Geico. after all the money they make is directly tied in with cars on the road.

neither of those companies make money if there are no cars on the road.

    Why push their buttons?

Besides, just because their addicted to eating doesn't mean they're not convinced

Plus if all petro fueled cars were band, everybody would buy electric cars and they'd still would be in bussiness

Depending on how good the food is...

Your plan could backfire, and no more good eats. [:p]

    "Why push their buttons."
That's not something I would have expected from you.

I wonder how those electric cars are going to get electricity.

I say we just got too many people.

As for pushing people's button about "global warming" or "organic" Everything traveled to the "consumers" and how many of those trucks were electric that dropped off that crap at Whole Foods? All those "smart phones" were made by Chinamen and we all know how environmentally conscious they are.

Just fools fooling themselves. Global EMP can't happen soon enough.

I think we can all take some inspiration from this.

The next time I see a fat church member at Golden Corral, I am going to confront them and remind them that gluttony is a sin and that instead of stuffing their face at the chocolate wonderfall, they should be down at the salvation army washing the feet of homeless people.

Politics and convictions people hold dear like religion are best left unsaid. If you hit the hot buttons it typically sets them off and either side suffers dread.

    Especially with family.

Electric cars are the future. They don't pollute like all of you guys driving those terrible gasoline vehicles. My electric car is clean and I just plug it up to my electrical outlet at home where clean electricity charges it up from a clean burning power plant that's regulated by the government.

I don't try to push their buttons.

I just ask if 100% of climate change is due to humans. They say no.

Then I ask, how much less? Is it 99%, or 9%, or .00009%? And they can never say.

So then I ask, if you don't know that, how do you know we need to do anything? Or how much? Or when to stop?
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I don't try. But if simple, reasonable questions result in them pushing their own, why...

I always start by saying "I know very little about all this. Maybe you can help." And then begin as above.

    That's not a simple question.

Let me rephrase it: if I have a pile of burning charcoal and add another piece of charcoal, how much is the temperature going to go up?

Obviously, we know the temp is going to increase because a whole bag of charcoal produces a hell of a lot more heat than three or 4 pieces.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has actually worked out the potential BTUs in a piece of charcoal, but this certainly isn't a "simple, reasonable" question that the average guy on the street is going to know.

The world is full of people who are convinced what they believe in is true, and you cannot convince them it is not. Let them live in their own world and love them for who they are. If you don't love them I wouldn't care what they believe. [8D]

This kind of reminds me of something that happened to me about 37 years ago. I was working for a friend of mine at the time. I was on my lunch break eating a Twinkie when this woman walks over to me and starts going on about how bad they were for me. I looked up at her and she is about 7 or 8 months with baby and puffing away on a Marlboro like a diesel truck. I just thought to myself, what a dumb bi*ch.

I think what Rocky was trying to say, if you're going to run around saying "the sky is falling". you should know what you're talking about. And why it is falling, and what percentage of what is making the sky fall. Instead of running around like Chicken Little and everybody that believed him and start advocating the same thing without hard evidence proving your claims.

Because you're going to run into somebody like Rocky that has more intelligence than an imbecile that will want to see the proof of the claims, so that they can jump on the band wagon too without spreading unsubstantiated rumors. Or tell him to shut up until they're ready to put up

So if I keep piling on bags of charcoal the temperature of the fire will keep going up...

You just sit there and think about what you said for a minute or ten. That is the most massive (attempt at) logic fail I have seen in quite a while.

Remember Star Tre: Next Generation had a show where if they flew at Warp Speed through parts of space it would rip the space and time continuum. Utter BS.

Also some movies say using magic has bad consequences to the user. More fictional BS.

I have no idea why people always fear Something?
