PSL extraction problem

I posted this over on the Ask the Experts side as well but I wanted to cover as much ground as possible:

I have a PSL and when I fire it the empty casing extracts only to the 90% angle from the center line of the barrel before the bolt closes thus "pinching" the casing just about in its center. Happens every shot so I've never been able to fire more than one round at a time before I have to open the bolt and remove the pinched casing.

What would cause this? Old grease in the bolt assembly?, something wrong with the extractor? It never fails to extract the empty but it won't throw it out before the bolt closes on it.
I'd appreciate any help you guys could offer.

Before any further diagnostics, make sure all working parts are CLEAN and properly lubed.

This step solves so many issues and it's the easiest.

That's why I asked about the old grease, I suppose I should tear down the bolt assy first and see what that does. The rifle has been stripped and cleaned but I have not yet taken the bolt all the way down.I thought that this problem may be a common one with the Psl.

If all else fails have a look at the gas port. I had an FNC with a partially plugged gas port, it took some ingenuity to figure out a way to clean it out.

Plugged gas port or the grenade launcher selector being in the wrong position, both would cause stove pipes.

I don't know if the PSL has a rifle grenade selector option or not.

Weak ammo is also a possibility, I've loaded some bullets a bit to mild and had stovepipe issues.

Use stronger ammo or lighter recoil spring.

PSL is that that Romanian 7.62x54 AK?
If so, pull off your gas tube and make sure it's not full of rust.
Check your gas port as well.

ALL of that surplus 7.62x54 is corrosive and will rust out your gas tube and gas port if you don't hose out those areas with water.

Yes it is 7.62x54 but I bought it new and have never fired surplus ammo in it. I will check the gas tube and port again though. thanks.
