Saw a Black Bear Wednesday while camping in Wisco

Went camping at Buckhorn State park this last Wednesday through Sunday. As we were driving into our campground area I hit the brakes as a black bear came walking out from the dumpsters. Didn't have my camera ready when it happened. We set up our camp then saw the bear again as we were driving out to get wood. Still didn't have the camera ready.

Thought to myself... Damn I brought the wrong guns with me! Had one of my AK's and my Kimber TLE with me. Should've brought a 12 ga with slugs. I just bought another 870 Express Mag that came with 2 barrels and 2 stock sets (pistol grip and full stock).

Was a good trip, got to do a little 4 wheeling in my Nissan Frontier again. There is a huge Necedah Wildlife Preserve area with dirt trails over 39,000 acreas (it is open for hunting). Saw a bunch of deer, turkey, owls, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, and all sorts of other smaller birds.

My digital camera crapped out on me but I should have some more pics from my non-digi camera soon. Here's some crappy pics of the truck "off roading" and some of the surrounding area.

You felt under gunned with your Kimber and AK? Looks like rough country...did the bear get your hotdogs?

I saw my first Grizzly the weekend before last...I've seen plenty of black bear, but no grizzlies until then.

Kind of like a rattler, it don't matter if ya never seen one when you do you know what it is.

Kept on bumping into these sandhill cranes. They are as big as an ostrich but can fly. Here's one in the middle of a field I was trying to get close to on foot:

Finally got a better look at them:

Saw some deer. This little guy has some nubs for antlers:

The state park is on a pensula that sticks out into the Wisco river. Here's a pic of the other side of the park way away from where we camped:

We spent a couple days driving the Necedah Wisconsin Wildlife Refuge.
They have what seemed to be 20 miles of dirt trails open to cars and atv's:

They have some trails you can get out and walk on:

I wonder if this place (40K acreas) wasn't clear cut then donated by some benefactor:
