Hi Point carbines

I keep hearing thier pistols are crap and now I'm hearing their carbines are great. Is this the case? I'm looking for a truck gun and if the reviews are as they say it might be what I need.

Also if you have one, what do you think of it...
Just be sure to stock up on ammo. You'll be reloading that mag a LOT.[:D]
Oh and with the Storm you can change all the controls and even the ejection from right to left handed.
It was used, and came without any magazines.
I think the reason it came without mags is because the stock was so busted up inside I had to pry a mag out with a fingernail. No way would it drop free. If it has shipped with a mag, the seller would have had to admit it was a bit hinkey.
But no foul. I didn't send an email asking the seller if there was anything screwey they weren't disclosing. My bad.
I paid the 40 bucks at hi-point for their newer stock. Although I like the look of their classic.
And I bought a few mags while I was at it.
Its all firmly put together and mostly cleaned up. I'm looking forward to seeing what it will do. Just haven't gotten to the range yet.
I cannot imagine how it could possibly launch brass at your face though.
I hope to have a range report from this weekend.
Spend a little extra and get a Beretta Storm. You won't regret it.

Yep. I'm a leftie and love my Storm. It also uses standard Beretta 92FS mags.
I can't wait to try the new .40S&W!
The guns are ugly, way overengineered (the extractor is 3 pieces of metal!), very accurate, only hold 10 rounds, are lots of fun to shoot, mine has never failed to feed, fire, or extract any rounds (including reloads w/XTPs), and works better than the Ruger I bought in a frenzy.
with hi point, you're paying for a budget gun. in fact, you're paying for the lowest of the low dollar budget guns. budget guns lack the fit, finish, and quality of materials of higher value guns. dont expect it to be pretty or to be a real survivor. it also will never gain a penny in value, unless of course they ban all guns but grandfather currently owned guns(i.e. machine guns). its very very likely that you will lose money if you ever sell it no matter how long you keep it or how much you fire it.
much like the ak, the loose tolerances actually work for the gun in some ways instead of against it. they'll(usually) fire so soiled id be ashamed to be in the same room with them. not particularly accurately, but they'll run. i've heard stories from people who refuse to clean their hi points. shoot the crap out of them, put em up dirty and do it again next weekend. theres a certain amount of value in reliability like that. does it outweigh the significant amount of negatives? thats up to you.
they're oversized(thanks to the pot metal castings. they have to be overly thick to stay dimensionally stable). they're uglier than an elephants *. they're blocky and ergonomically hideous; but they're cheap and they run.
i too would save up a few more dollars until i was playing a few pegs higher in the market, but you didnt ask for advice on other guns so i wont tell you you want seafood when you asked me for the best steakhouse.
i also have no information on left handed operation.

And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I had one once, in 9mm. Bought it for $100, and later gave it to a friend. I have to say it was a fun shooter. Plus, I needed a few parts and HP shipped them free. I cannot find fault with their customer support.
I have one in 9mm, I would have preferred the .40 or .45 but they were priced much higher. I also got the magazine holder that attaches to the stock that holds two extra mags.
I warned them when I ordered the mag holder that I have about thirty relatives that reside right next to their office that I will sic on them if I have any problems. (Dayton Memorial Cemetary)

I think J&G still carries them in the $400 and under range IIRC.

That 1st Sterling I linked would look really cool with a short barrel.
