Jake, I went to the local butcher shop to see if they had any venison jerky. No venison, but they had buffalo. Want some?

Alcohol and Pornography is illegal to have in Iraq, Kinda like a "sin" I think. As is pork, etc etc. Mail says you arent to ship Alcohol, Aerosol cans, etc... To hell with it. Hide it good. [:D][:D]

I used to order things for a couple guys that would send things over to their son. He would get a bunch of one thing and send it over for all of his son's guys (he was an officer.) They really liked the Leupold scope cleaning cloths and bore snakes. He brought in a list that was pretty interresting.....suggested items to send. I only remember a few things.
    Talcom Powder
    Nail Clippers
    Candy
    Books
    Toothpaste
    Books
    Deoderant
I think Batteries was on the list too. It was from some shoebox organization.

Zulu....is there anyone there that doesn't get anything from home?

$25 will get a lot more than you might imagine.

One thing Jake asked me to send was Hoppes 9 powder solvent. I couldnt find any of the LARGE bottles like he wanted, so I got few of the small ones. So, I imagine gun cleaning stuff, jerky, more cleaning stuff, more jerky... [:D][:D]

So besides Jerky and Hoppes, what other kinds of things should we include?

    "Talcom Powder
    Nail Clippers
    Candy
    Books
    Toothpaste
    Books
    Deoderant
I think Batteries was on the list too. It was from some shoebox organization."

Is this accurate? Is there anything else?

I'm good on books. I've got more now that I'll probably have time to read.

The rest is spot on though.

AA batteries are in high demand and low supply here.

FWIW, have been the receiver and sender for care packages myself. AA batteries are good. So is writing paper, pens, envelopes. Stamps not needed in most cases. If soldier is eating MREs, little packets of soy sauce, hot sauce, taco bell sauces are good. Candy, especially things that don't melt. Gum. Ramen, Hot chocolate. Booze, porn, pork are taboo. CDs, paperbacks, a baseball, tennis ball, frisbee. Any of the travel size toothpaste, powder, etc. Try to stay away from liquids in the mail. double bag them in ziplock bags.

when I was in afghan we only had two mirrors in the whole camp!
folks back home sent all sorts of make-up mirrors and such.
hard to shave w/o a mirror!
there was a black market in the camp for AA batteries! you think ammo prices are high? we were paying $10 EACH for AA's in the first couple weeks (until the care packages started arriving).
is anyone using rechargeable batteries over there? you can get two rechargeable AA's with a plug in charger pretty reasonable now. are you running off generators or local electric?

I know when I was over seas I sure missed my good buddy Mr. Jack D.
You'd be popular for sure. How much hot water would you been in if you were caught with some 'listerine'?

He would get in more trouble than I would think about chancing, IMO. Not to mention injury to another soldier if drunk and not know what he is doing, when called to combat. Never know

tplumeri....I can still order anything you guys would like to send over. The "stuff" like bore snakes and such aren't a whole lot cheaper than what you can get them at Academy or Walmart. They buy in such bulk it is hard to beat those prices....but I'm willing to check into anything you would like me to.

Zulu....anything you KNOW you would like if we can scrounge it up for you guys?

I have a hard time keeping up with these threads sometimes so...anyone with input please send me an e-mail. I'll try to watch this better, but I sometimes get caught up and forget what I was doing.

FYI- packages going out of IQ are searched. Packages going in with postal tracking, usually are not.

    Just sayin...
