Reading of lots of problems with the Brake Lock Differential system used in the Jeep Patriot and now the Jeep / Fiat Renegade.

Basically traction control cuts forward movement by applying the brakes to simulate a locking differential. The problem there is slippery surfaces (boat ramps, snow, mud, etc.). The main problem is you can't turn it completely off.

When you want to keep moving traction control cuts your power and applies the brakes when you don't want the brakes on.

I really was interested in the Patriot (even Renegade) till I did some research on that system.

My wife has a Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4 with traction control (sand,mud,and snow)and she has 20,000 trouble free miles...we live down south,so no snow,but plenty of mud! I think it will go anywhere we want to....it has the raise and lower for on-off road situations...
