There's another thread going about cost of living in various areas. Anyone from Dallas or the DFW area? Is it comparable to other metros? Anyone lived somewhere else first and that could do a comparison with the cost of living in both places?

Thanks.

Housing costs are pretty reasonable for what you get compared to other metro areas, esp. places like Seattle or CA. 4 BR 3 BA, ~3000 SqFt with a decent lot runs $175k and up depending on age, location, etc. No state income taxes, so property taxes are a little high, between 2.4% and 3% depending on locale. Property taxes are lower anywhere outside of Dallas county, except Lantana.

Raised just outside of FW about thirty miles NW on Eagle Mountain Lake. Traveled most of my younger days but settled back here in '76. So I can't compare that past knowledge with current prices.

Seems almost everywhere I lived I felt things were less expensive here at that time. I do know that our "style" of living is what I consider better here.

While Dallas is truly a "big" city, FW is like living in a small town. Traffic problems are short even in the rush hours. Museums and such are everywhere, as is good healtcare.

If you're planning a move is this direction, give us a few particular questions and we'll try to sort 'em out.

sundowner hit it pretty good except I'd add Houston and San Antonio to the Dallas list. Austin is now controlled by would be Communists, or so you would think.
