im not whining, im giving you a heads up.
there seems to be a trend taking place. a vigilante style clan is roaming around gun websites urging people to put 'wants' on auction if they have them. i dont understand this and maybe you all can help out.
say you post a want in the want forum. someone has what you need. he posts a reply and then all of a sudden, some other moron appears and says....'make sure you put it on auction so gb can get their cut.'

wait a minute! this want forum is a GIFT from gb to its membership. we dont owe gb anything and who in blazes thinks we do? it seems that fleebay created this stupid idea with their 'want it now' option, but all it does is send you to existing auctions. what kind of service is that? [8]
so now, all of a sudden, people feel that if say, you need a bolt for a unusual gizmo model 134, wait for 8 months for a hit, google the world with no bites, search until your eyes water, and finally the guy with one finds you because of your ad, then some guy pops up and says....'it needs to be auctioned for you to get it,' is a little far fetched.
nowhere in the gb rules does it say it MUST be auctioned. we give gb hoards of business just by word of mouth, links referals, and they know it, thus they havent charged us for our wants. in business, its give and take. our want ads are part of the 'giveback' gb gives us for our undivided support and care for them. so next time a jerk tries to tell you we OWE gb, tell em to kiss off and go play their game on the other less friendly gunsites, and of course, feebay, where they most likely came from.[B)]

I think I actually agree with you here. If I had a part you needed for a gun and I heard you say so, on forum or anywhere else, my next step would be to email you and get you the part. If a person used a "classified" service to advertise his need for an item, then he would pay a fee for the listing, but, under no circumstances should anyone be required to auction the part no matter where they heard of the need.

I have made two sales that originated in the WTB forum here at GB and both times I went through the auction to complete the transaction.

I feel that recording the transaction through a third party that provides insurance is well worth the cost.

I understand that GB would not have felt I was slighting them had I made the sales directly, but it was my preference to go through the auction.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly
