I was wanting to know is it worth it to put a scope on my sks. Or is it better to leave it as is?[?]

    Maybe a red-dot type scope, but not a leopold or anything. SKSs arent exactly tack drivers.

    I've heard of some impressive shots made with SKS's, but those seem to be the exception rather than the rule. If you put one on, I agree with Marksmen: stick with a red dot or some other non-telescopic sight.

    I had a fixed 4x on mine that had a synthetic stock and was just set up for hunting. That one would shoot 2-3" groups at 100 yards and even with that accuracy, it still helped my shooting. I sold it to a friend who has since taken ~ 15 more deer with it. Keep in mind to make sure you get a shell deflector or you'll bang up the scope because of the way the empties fly. Also, it sounds overly simple, but you might just want to shoot it from a bench and find out what the accuracy of the gun really is. I've seen them vary from under an inch to over 5 again at 100 yards.

    Joe made a mount for me for a little 4x scope.

    The mount is shaped like a piece of angle iron, mounted to the left side of the receiver and is high enough to get the bolt out for cleaning without removing it.

    Here 'tis;

    A scope won't hurt,but for me I left mine be.I look at my sk as a short to medium range tool ...I got a scope on my 03-a3 Springfield for the furthur away stuff...If you can shoot it well up to 100 without a scope I'd leave it alone.Just my opinion.....L.H.

    I have a bunch of SKS rifles, and for the most part they are not accurate enough to improve much with a scope. I have a Romanian that can hit a man-sized target at 300 yds all day with open sights, which is about as good as you can expect from the 7.62x39 round. I also have some Norincos that could miss a barn a 200yds. The SKS and the 7.62x39 are not a good choice for building a target rifle IMHO. Use them for engaging targets quickly and effectively inside 200 yards and you'll be plenty happy with them.
