Anyone in the Phoenix area

Going to shoot some trap Sunday morning (Aug 24) at Ben Avery. Anyone in the area want to meet up and go with? They open at 8am and I like to get there bright and early, a) to beat the heat and b) to still have 'family time'.

Feel free to post or email me if interested. Any newbies or those without a shotgun, they have rentals and I have a couple extra.

Thanks for the invite, FamilyGuy -

Will have to pass, though. I'm clear across the Valley in SE Mesa, so I'm headed to the Rio Salado Sportsman's Club range in the early AM to pop a few caps. Ever get headed this way, give a holler!

Isn't that KingJoey's backyard? Oh, maybe you're tryin' to keep it secret from him. He'd shoot up the place. [:D]

How are you guys doin' on the gas problem out there fg? Haven't heard anything else about it here. Except I think it helped give them an excuse to raise the price.

outdoortx - quote:He'd shoot up the place. Actually, we're ok as long as there are no rampaging stolen cars around....[:D]

Yeah, KJ's in that neck of the woods, wouldn't be surprised if a few others are on the west side. That's the reason for the invite (that, and I feel that occasional need to blow sh!? up[;)]).

Kdub - I would like to try out Rio Salado one of these days, when I have more time. Trip to the SE part of the valley isn't so bad as long as it's not rush hour.

That, and if you can find a gas station with gas!!!

Actually, you can take the 101 Loop to the 202 Loop, exit at Higley Rd, Take McDowell Rd to Ellsworth Rd(Usery Pass Rd) and go north for a couple miles and your're there.

outdoortexas - sorry, just caught the gas question.

Everyone is pretty much po'd now that some details are coming out in the news, not sure how accurate they are:

Phoenix goes through about 100K barrels of gasoline a day. The first day of the crunch, we received 150K into the valley, that night 180K. Yet there were closures all over. There's practically a gas station on every corner here, and all you saw was yellow tape cordoning off the pumps. When you could get gas, it was anywhere from $2 to $4 a gallon. People panicking and topping off, or filling containers upped our usage radically I guess.

The lines at the pump were ludicrous. Literally a quarter mile down the street. Hours to move one or two car lengths sometimes, as a nearly empty tank being tapped by every pump at the same time gave up about 1/2 gallon a minute.

I personally lucked out. Gassed up right before the crunch. Then day 2 when the wife's truck needed gas (d@mn Ford truck gas guzzler...grumble....), I was coming home about 3 in the morning and the Safeway at the end of my block had gas, one customer, and only $1.80 a gallon. By the time I got home, got her keys, drove the 200 yards or so back to the station, I got the last open pump.

The company that pipes in the gas is now being investigated, supposedly they didn't up the flow on the Tucson pipeline when the crunch hit. Don't know what the Gov thinks she'll do, there are no state laws against price gouging. They're having problems repairing the ruptured line, the fixit date keeps getting backed up. About half the gas stations are open now, regular unleaded only, a little over $2 a gallon.

Kdub - what about the Sunday before labor day? (or do you shoot that often?) Labor day is a paid day off where I work, so that weekend I'll have more free time.

    FamilyGuy -

As much as I'd like to meet up and do some shooting with you, I don't go near the range on the weekends - SRO usually, having to wait for a bench to open up. Used to be a Rangemaster there until early this year. I can tell you, weekends are a jammed packed affair there. Sometime if you can hit it for a real early Thursday or Friday, let me know.

Darn right I'd shoot the place up! Isn't that what you're supposed to do? I want to do some skeet shooting too, just can't figure out how to load appliances in the pigeon chucker.[;)] Seriously though, any of y'all (here or out of state) are welcome to drop me an e-mail or call me if you want to do some blasting[;)]
