WOW!!!!! $4.00 Gal. Gasoline!!!

That's right - Gas stations in the Phoenix area are charging $4.00/gal. for unleaded regular! And, that's if you can find a station that has it. Seems strange, all the reports say more gas is being trucked into the area than is normally consumed on a daily basis, yet only a few stations have gas to sell. The ruptured pipeline that is down for repairs supplied 30% of the fuel to the area. Another that supplied 70% is now pumping at 85%. The remainer is being trucked in. Governor was going to mobilize the national guard tanker trucks - guess what? They're all in Iraq!!!

Another oddity - Arizona has no law regarding price gouging. Think it's time for the governor to wake up and call an emergency legislature meeting and resolve the issue.

Kdub...You need to drive up to Payson, AZ. Regular unleaded gas could be bought yesterday for $1.57 to $1.64 a gallon. A couple stations said there was no shortage there and it has to be trucked there from either Phoenix or New Mexico. Even a rip off station 20 miles from Payson was selling regular unleaded gas yesterday for $1.85 a gallon. No lines at any of the stations up here.

If you don't care where you are going, you can't get lost.

If there was enough gas left in the truck for the trip, I'd do it! Do most of my deer/elk hunting over by Khol's Ranch area when able to get drawn, so like the Payson area a lot.

The problem is that there is not a single oil refinery in Arizona and according to a customer I have in the oil business Phoenix receives about 30% of its fuel from Texas vis pipeline and the other 70% from Southern California. The Texas pipeline is the one that is down and the western link is trying to carry the entire load. This has caused the price of gasoline to rise here in So. Cal. as well since supplies were tight here to begin with and now refiners are trying to pump extra product into the pipeline to cover the shortfall.

Here is a challange for all of the Arizona folks who have been bashing California for months in their posts: Break the link, boycott all of that evil California gasoline that you've been using for all of these years. Hell its being supplied into your "free state" by a bunch of commie, pinko, fruits and nuts located in an anti gun state (I've read other comments which are even less kind). We could use the gasoline here, I paid $2.25 per gallon for premium today and this is up 30 cents since the pipe line failed. I've been listening to this boycott California crap for months from all over the USA so put your money where your mouth is and start the California boycott at the fuel pump. You can all probably do without our fresh fruits, vegtables, and dairy products as well.

That's a bit outrageous but one should expect the gas companies to jump on the wagon so they can make a big profit.

In the 70's gas was almost $2 and climbing in Hawaii - but that was about the only place one really expected it.

I think maybe everybody should go on strike maybe? Don't drive any where and don't buy any of that $4.00 gas!

In the early 1980's in the northeast one market study stated that the average American at that time would pay up to $2 per gallon without boycotting. That was over 20 years ago and now $4 per gallon seems to be just about right.

Yep, it's been around $2.00 here in Phx, but some stations are gouging. I suspect there's a bit of underhandedness in this whole thing, a lot of corrupt relationships between gov't and big business here in AZ. They was obvious price fixing and collusion between most gas stations in Flagstaff when I lived there. Private investigations into the matter could always find the evidence and paper trails but when it would get turned over to the state gov't they could never prove anything.[xx(] We paid 30-40 cents more a gallon then anywhere else in AZ for several years. Haven't seen a single pic or video snippet of this massive pipeline "leak" either. I'd think if a bunch of gas/oil leaked out in the desert they'd have a bunch of granolas and Greenpeace folks out there demonstrating on behalf of the Gila monster and cacti, but I haven't even seen the "leak" on the 5 o'clock news. Something is fishy[:(!]

Chuck, Mark's one of the few people left in CA supporting the 2nd, a little respect please. Having grown up in CA I can attest that it has it's problems, but that stems from the gov't there not the people. The problems here in AZ stem from the gov't and the people, if you want to bash on a messed up state this one is fair game[;)]

Well "Chuckie" that "Kalrussia" nonsense is my point exactly. Have you EVER been to Russia? Set foot in ANY former ComBloc nation: Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Romania, or any of the other CIS States that made up the former Soviet Union? Tell me all about your observations from those dozens of countries you've no doubt visited which equate so nicely with California. I've traveled all over Eastern Europe and I see ZERO of California there, except for the Black Sea beaches and a huge number of beautiful young women. Tell me all about Kalrussia based on your globe trotting experiences.
My boycott story was simply to show that all of us are linked together and no one state can go it alone. By the way, even my own mother calls me Mark and not Markie.

Goodness, is some more gentlemanly behavior called for here, or what? Shouldn't grown men with guns have thicker hides? And if Mark would prefer you call him Mark, please do so. Let's put a lid on this flame war brewing.

Mark, you make a good point, CA makes many nice things that others enjoy, and we are glad for it. OTOH, Where do you think the water to grow all those yummies comes from? My point, here, guys, is that we are all interconnected, and we here on the forum more so than most.

You are also right, in your comments inre. E. Europe, though things are changing there fast.

Good post Mark. Fact of the matter is is that the other 49 states couldn't survive without Calif.

The point of the post was that ALL 50 States depend on each other and all of us contribute to the greater good. I've spent lots of time in Arizona and happen to love the Phoenix area-- although I chose to have my second home in Southern Utah (it is just as hot in the Summer). If I have to pay extra for my gasoline here in So. Cal. so that Joey can still drive his car around in Pheonix then I am willing to do so. If certain uninformed members feel that this is a form of communisim: "from each according to abilites (we have the refineries and the product), to each according to his needs (they have neither)", then so be it.
