thanks for the help. i checked the load data on the deerhunter and it did show 70 grains of pyrodex as the minimum with a .240 gr. sabot. since you have some practical experience, what do you think is better in that rifle, sabots or conicals. thanks much

    [}:)]Patched round ball! Then the conicals. But having said that, if your going to use sabots use the powerbelt. Less plastic residue, easier loading, easier cleanup.[:)]

    thanks powdersmoke ! i knew i could count on you to cut to the quick, but, roundball ? i thought they lost velocity and accuracy rather quickly.

    Round ball tends to be more accurate (ohboyamigonnahearitnow) over the distances you will probably be shooting deer, etc. But on the other hand the conicals pack more punch. (Both of which probably apply more to shorter barrels, as in pistols, than to rifles.) Couldn't tell much on the sabots, tho' I have shot them, they probably have the same or similar characteristics as the conicals.
