5mm Rimfire Mag

For those who have been trying to find reasonably priced 5mm ammo, now is the time to petition Remington. With the popularity of the polymer bullets, and the new .17 callibre Remington can reintroduce the 5mm rifles and ammo with good success. The early 70s was not the right time to introduce a sub .22 calibre. Manufactures are driven by demand and with enough requests we can get the ball rolling. Just send an email direct to Remington. Thanks.

I wish someone would start producing 5mm again..I have the same three full boxes I purchased back in 75. (Locked in the Safe)..I sure someone can beat $65.00 a box usually found at gunshows when they have it..But like u stated they came out with the round just a little too early.

Gunmakers are like polititions, they dont pay attention until they stand to profit. Polititions will generally look into an issue after the sixth inquiry. This is why special interest groups urge us to make the calls. We should be able to do a lot better than that on this issue.

Check the Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Remington5mm/ The group is dedicated to the 5mm Remington.

    Good info and friendly people.

The .22 WMR had two other advantages. There was a slightly cheaper round that could be used in its place & mostly because of the convertable revolvers. This provided enough guns to keep the round going during the rough times.
I suspect you may be right about the .17 HMR but it does seem to have more fans than I thought it would.

SaxonPig, I beg to differ with you on the 17HMR! The 5mmRem was produced by one manufacturer with I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 27000 guns bing produced. The 17HMR on the otherhand has been produced by Marlin, Savage, NEF, Cooper,CZ, Taurus, S&W, Ruger, Remington, T/C, and others, and the ammo produced,(albeit it might have all come from the CCI factory) under the names of HORNADY, REMINGTON, CCI, FEDERAL with an offering to come from WINCHESTER!!! Too many big names in this mix for it to die a quick death!! Also, to much accuracy to be thrown away!! For some reason it is accurate!! For some reason it is fast! For a host of reasons it is the single most vesatile of the rimfire offerings available! This one isn't going to fade away!!! For a guy with a phD you ought to see the light!!! GHD PS: My original post was to "SP" and that could have been misconstrued as being meant for "SP45" instead of "SaxonPig"! Sorry for the confusion!!

    I agree with GHD, I have several 22 magnums & 2 5mm Mag rifles with a
lot of ammo but I don,t expect to ever shoot them very much again. The 17 is my gun of choice in small caliber & the gun I enjoy shooting the most. Red Dog

I agree with GHD, I can't always fire the centerfire at the lease, and I am accuracy dedicated. I "plink" with the shotgun, if I fire a rifle it is for accuracy and the .17 can provide sub MOA accuracy, the 22. cannot always.
