There was a guy named Lake in my Masters class back in 1970. He was local, his Dad was the newspaper publisher.
I ran into him about 1995.
Seems he had made his career dismantling US factories, and then he managed the setup in China. He even speaks Mandarin. He was proud of his work, and had made decent money.
We did not hit it off because it was obvious that he was a Clinton supporter.
Every city empty of manufacturing probably had guys like Lake tearing it apart.

These companies were happy to sell the old equipment. Some sold the rights (patents) to the old equipment, along with drawings and technical information about the items that were produced.
The old manufacturing equipment made great machinery but it was "old tech", took too much labor and was expensive to fix. Suited the Chinese Economy Perfectly, they had LOTS of people needing work.
Allis Chalmers sold the design for their "old" turbines, Chinese were building these "old" turbines and selling them back to the U.S.
Did a startup in Boulder for a small power plant with a Chines water powered turbine being powered off the municipal water supply.
Probably still have the photo of a "nickle" standing on edge atop the transfer case between the turbine and generator while it was running at 90+ percent. That was around 1986.
our govt has favored every other country in its trade deals and that has ruined our production of damn near everything...bet we cannot even make a plastic widget any more here...these agreements from carter to nafta to present hurt me in agriculture..but nobody seemed concerned
Yep, sell the future of America down the river for a dollar.[xx(][xx(][V][V]
