I am really glad the owner was able to protect himself from these armed punks.

SEATTLE -- An alleged robber in a jewelry store holdup in West Seattle was hit when the store owner opened fire during the attempted heist Friday afternoon.

The robbery, at Western Jewelry and Coin Exchange in the 4200 block of Southwest Alaska Street, occurred about 4:19 p.m., when two masked men armed with guns entered the store.

After the store owner -- a 42-year-old man -- fired one round, the two men fled in a green Jeep Cherokee.

Shortly afterwards, a vehicle matching that description dropped off a man in his 20's with a gunshot wound at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Video from Chopper 7 showed officers armed with rifles entering the hospital.

The wounded man was in serious condition, hospital officials told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Police officer Deanna Nollette said officers were still looking for the second man, and no criminal charges are expected against the store owner.

Nollette said the man at Harborview is in custody, and is expected to be formally arrested for investigation of attempted robbery.
