Went way out on a limb here.
Heavily modified Colt SAA.
Maybe be a parts gun or somewhat
rare.

    Stags are worth $250.

Somebody milled it for a S&W adjustable sight. Needs the front blade replaced. The caliber would not be my first choice. But if you put the sights on it it would be a fun shooter. Not original of course, but a 1G SAA to have fun with.

I screwed up about 20 years ago by not buying one. It was cheap because the barrel was shot. BUT the guy had a very good barrel to go with it [^]

    Why would someone screw-up a nice 1st gen Colt?[V]

That is sad. Why did it go for $999?

Back in the old days they were a dime a dozen like 98k Mauser's were in the 60's. Elmer Keith prolly blew up a 100 of them just messing around.

That is a good deal on that shooter. I would find me a S&W rear sight that fit, get a Smith to put a front sight on it and check the springs and small parts. Then I would load up a heap of 38 spl and shoot the snot out of it.

It was somebody's "shooter" made up back in thew 1960s most like when such guns were still plentiful and cheap. That's why good original examples bring so much now. Many were modified.

I would scare up a K frame sight (most likely a K) and put a new blade on it and shoot the hell out of it.

Whenever I see something like that I think about the 73 Winchester I saw once at a gun show for $250, needed a couple parts and the barrel was shot, but damn, I should have taken it home. But I don't think I would pay that much for that Colt.

Because "back in the day" when it was customized, it wasn't a "nice 1st gen Colt". I was just another freaking pistol.
