    Bummer man....

Howz-a-bout wrapping the crap out of the knee with ace bandages until opening day?????

Nothing like a successful opening day hunt to take the sting out of orthopaedic surgery.

well...shave my head and call me Ishmael...suck it up and get out there in the woods scotto. If captain Ahab could sail half way around the world on one leg to hunt a great white whale you can hobble off into the woods for a few yours to kill a puny little deer.

Switch to a Tactical 300 Win Mag....and a LARGE dog to bring the deer back with.

    Sorry bud.....good luck to you.

Scott- you TRULY have my sympathy- have appt with my orthopod on Tuesday- meniscus. Should have listened to the Black Hat that kept saying "Keep your feet and knees together" Hoping mine will be a straight forward 'scope job. Had the other knee scoped 3 yrs back- Percocet is WONDERFUL stuff when you hurt like hell. Make sure the crutches are not too long- weight should be on the heels of your hans, NOT in your armpit. Good luck, bro[^]

Are those "foundations" still around where they took the crippled/disabled out into a shooting house....then they would heard the deer toward them so they could "hunt?"

    That could be an option.

I suggest you wear a yellow safety type bicycle helmet to the interview if you decide to try out for it.

    I feel your pain

Got my new knee brace this afternoon. Cane (I'm thinkin' Cro-mo) is ordered and will be in Monday or Tuesday.

Tore up the left knee (meniscus) last November. I think it finally let loose about 2:00pm yesterday (I was standing and it felt like someone stuck an ice pick in my knee).

    MRI is Sunday Oct 8th

Taking Vicadon 750, Motrin 800 and some nuro blocker. Got some patches for the pain too. I'm limping around like a 2000 year old man.

Still at work - going to the range Sunday to play with a 308 @ 300 yds. I'm just not going to hang targets.

When are you going under the knife?

I was off and on with several kinds of knee braces for years. The knee especially didn't like twisting. Finally I had an mri and orthoscopic surgery. They fished out over 20 floating pieces, trimmed off a flap of torn meniscus and polished some bone. They packed some kind of pain killer in it before they closed me up. I never needed any prescription drugs or even an aspirin. The tiny scars have just about disappeared.
The leg was stiff for a week or so, but really, no big deal and no crutches for more than a day. There was some crackling when the knee was bent but that disappeared and It's normal after about six months.
It was done at UVA Hospital by a specialist in athletic orthopedic injuries.

No matter what it is ... it could always be worse ... sometimes a lot worse.

Complain to the man with no legs.[B)]

Zipper's comment made me think about something I heard my dad day to a customer one time.

They were talking about some gun in the store. The buyer was trying to haggle (as usual) and there was my dad.....he said

"I know a guy who would pay a THOUSAND dollars to see that gun"

The man looked at my dad speechless. Then my dad said...

    "he's blind."

If'n your surgery isn't tomorrow, I'd be hunting tomorrow with our without a bum knee.

About five years ago, I did a century bike ride (100 miles) with the flu. I had a fever. This ride was important to me because I had been training for it for close to a year, and it was the first century ride that I ever did (it was also the last). I was not going to let being sick get in the way of something that was important to me.

Get yourself a metal knee brace, strap it on, and enjoy yourself. You'll be slow, it'll be uncomfortable, but if hunting is truly that important, just do it.

Meanwhile, I'm sorry to hear about your bad news.

Sorry about the bad news Scott, but glad it is not permanant! Hunt with JustC. He will sit you at a bench and you can shoot 'em 600 yards out. Yeah, me neither...

Those in the business call that particular injury the "unhappy triad". . .and its a bad one. Usually happens to football players who get tackled from the side.

Anyway, I'd say the ability to walk well in the future outweighs missing one hunting season. Maybe you should go sit yourself at the range and shoot a deer target instead.

Check with the game warden. YOu may be able to get a temporary handicap permit which in our state means you get to hunt from the pickup and shoot out the window (legally [;)])
